With the death of Georges Fontenis, we have lost one of the leading figures in the postwar
revolutionary movement in France. He played an important role in the reconstruction and
reform of the French anarchist movement, and in supporting those fighting for Algerian
independence in the 1950s and 60s; a prominent activist in May 68, he would go on to help
(re)create a libertarian communist movement in the 1970s; he was also in later life one of
