Portland, OR: No to High Bus Fares by Brandon Feld ---- High prices on
everything from gas to food have been driving more and more Portland residents
to use public transportation. So you would think that the increase in riders
might lower the fares, or at least keep them from going up -- right? Wrong. In
September TriMet, Portland's public transportation system, raised basic fares by
25 cents, bringing the adult all-zones fare to $2.30. The rate increase is <b...

as the government insists on wage restraint and the prospect of m...

Just one week after a $38 billion, tax-payer-funded bailout of American
International Group (AIG), the company's executives spent $443,343 on a luxury
resort vacation at Monarch Beach, California. The government rewarded their
unabashed greed by giving them another $38 billion, and the rest of us are
holding our breath as those in power cut into the few services that actually
benefit the people. ---- Here in Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick recently
