(en) France, UCL - Unit call, National demonstration to ban layoffs and job cuts on January 23 in Paris ! (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Sat, 23 Jan 2021 10:21:56 +0200

On Saturday 23 January, at the initiative of the mobilized employees of TUI, and at the call of a large number of union structures, coordination and collectives but also political organizations including the UCL, a national demonstration to prohibit layoffs and job cuts will take place in Paris, 2 p.m., National Assembly. ---- The Libertarian Communist Union (UCL) is a signatory of the call for the National Demonstration to ban the layoffs and job cuts of January 23 in Paris reproduced below. ---- This call, launched by TUI employees and their CGT union, is now joined by many union structures. ---- For UCL, the need for a large-scale response that is as strongly rooted in the workplace is essential in the face of the increasing number of layoffs imposed on workers by the capitalists. It is not for us to pay for the crisis and it is for them to be accountable !

Even if to the demand for a law of prohibition we prefer that of a right of veto of the workers on the collective dismissals. Why ?

Relying on the state, a staunch defender of capitalism and the interests of the bourgeoisie, has always been an illusion. During the experience of the administrative authorization of dismissals (from 1975 to 1986), we saw above all the state validating dismissals to guarantee employers' profits. How would the Macronian state be more inclined to do better ?

It is understandable that this demand appears to be "realistic", just as the question of the nationalization of companies threatened with closure can appear as a guarantee of job maintenance. But it does not appear less "realistic" to rely on our political capacity as workers.

It is in this sense that the UCL notably brings the demand for a right of veto of workers on collective dismissals. It is a question of calling into question the legitimacy and absolutism of the bosses, of raising the question of power in companies. Who decides ? The revolutionaries' response must be uninhibited: power, all power, must go to the workers.

See you on January 23 !

National demonstration to ban layoffs and job cuts ! ALL IN PARIS JANUARY 23 AT 2 P.M.
During this year, the Covid19 health crisis has uninhibited the bosses in an unprecedented way. With the complicity of the government, they are laying off people with a vengeance and the figures are eloquent and devastating:

* 30 layoff plans per week in October ; * 1 million job cuts by the end of 2020 ; * 657 job cuts recorded between 1 stMarch and 22 November 2020 ; * Massive elimination of posts in hospitals and public services ; * 500 billion of public money paid to companies without any compensation ; * And during this time... the Cac40 achieves its best figure in 30 years... shameful !

We refuse to pay for their crisis ! And this is the reason for the appeal of Tui, this large tourism group that wants to cut 600 jobs out of 900 in France. These employees, the Tui, did not hesitate at the end of October to try to regroup the forces to put an end to the layoffs by launching a public call for the regrouping to strike together.

We refuse to be the adjustment variable of these "corona-profiteers", of these "bosses-layoffs" who continue to line their pockets, while our jobs are being abolished or relocated abroad for the sole benefit of shareholders.

The money injected by the state was to be used to maintain our jobs, not to cut them massively. It is time to unite and resist all together... Unite so as not to suffer anymore !

Separately we will not succeed, but all united behind a single goal we can reverse the balance of power and put an end to this massacre. Let's make a common front. Let's work together on a battle plan to put an end to layoffs and relocations.

We must intensify the struggles, participate massively in rallies and pickets. That locally, each and every one of us support workers struggling to break isolation, bring solidarity, and convince as many people as possible.

Let's make visible the massive destruction of jobs which plunges us into precariousness: let's ban layoffs !

This is why we call on all employees to join us:

This is only the beginning of a Common Front against the killing of our jobs in companies, hospitals and public services.
