The employers of OTE and Cosmote want to make every sacrifice to implement their
business plan, which is why they intensify their impartiality towards the
employees, whom they systematically persecute, blackmail and threaten, in order
to bow down and accept the strategic planning of the company or to resign under
the weight of pressure and persecution for meager compensation. In many cases,
employees are forced to resign, as the company forces them to move from the
province to Athens, causing problems in their daily lives and their families.
Many employees complain that they have been called to fabricated disciplinary
councils, where their final dismissal is announced with non-existent accusations,
many times without even having the right to go to these councils. Some workers on
sick leave were also laid off. At the same time, the employees' lawyers complain
that the disciplinary meetings are held without allowing the entry of the lawyer,
the disciplinary defendant and / or the defense witness, under the pretext of
protection measures, which are not respected even by the employer. That is why
the employees complain that the group's employers act with government backs and
government policy coverage, as they are indifferent to the implementation and
observance of the prescribed legal framework, as well as to health measures,
labor rights, mental and physical health of company employees. Many OTE and
Cosmote employees have suffered heart attacks during this time, some have died,
an employee of the group tried to commit suicide in Thessaloniki, while another
employee was hanged in the office where he worked! By firing the old employees,
the management of OTE and Cosmote will be able to staff the three subsidiaries
under creation with a new and cheaper workforce that will have even fewer labor
rights, thus protecting and increasing their profits.
In the modern telecommunications scams of OTE and Cosmote, the working and
material reality for the employees is lifeless, while their future is extremely
precarious and uncertain. The responsibility for the deterioration of working
conditions, the undermining of living standards, suicides and illnesses of
employees as a result of the material and psychological pressure that they suffer
daily, weighs exclusively on the employer of the group, which annihilates them
daily with the policy that follows, which is solely based on maximizing the
profit of its shareholders. The arbitrariness and impunity of the employers of
OTE and Cosmote do not reach the public discourse. These companies offer huge
sums for advertising in the urban press and the state media. Everything has its
costs for their bosses and businesses. After all, as a rule, they monopolize the
news and its flow.
We, as part of the working class and anarchists, support the militant class
mobilizations of the workers in OTE and Cosmote, as we stood in solidarity with
them, respectively, when a few months ago they went on a long strike demanding
collective bargaining, salary increases and the removal of redundancies. The
organization of workers in class unions and workers 'initiatives, away from the
employers' and bureaucratic unions that give consent to all anti-labor
arrangements and are pillars and accomplices of the bosses, is a necessary
condition for defending their interests and claiming their rights. in the attacks
launched by their bosses and political personnel against them. The power of the
workers lies in the realization of their class interests as diametrically opposed
to those of the bosses, in the organization of their solidarity and struggle for
the satisfaction of their immediate material needs. The strength of the workers
is their class mobilization and solidarity, in contrast to the unbridled
competition, individualization and slavery that their bosses try to instill in
them, in order to divide and isolate them, so that they do not become dangerous
and demand meeting their requests and needs. This collective power which is in
the hands of those who move the cogs of production today with their work, is the
same which is called upon to carry out the work of universal social and class
emancipation,
