(en) Czech, afed: Reistence no. 2/2018: The Summer Number of the Anarchist Revue Existence deals extensively with the turbulent year 1968. [machine translation]

Date Sun, 2 Sep 2018 10:05:58 +0300

You may have noticed that this year's edition does not follow fixed terms as it was with previous ones. Even though we have slowed down and the deadline is not falling over us, another summer number of the Anarchist Revue Existence is in the world. This time, we decided to dedicate him to the 50th anniversary of the revolutionary events of 1968, as we believe that it is an important historical milestone and, moreover, the anarchists and anarchists at that time. ---- In the Czech Republic this year is traditionally associated with the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops. The 21st of August thus became one of the feasts of primitive anti-Communism, so there is not much talk of what preceded this invasion of tanks of "friendly" armies, what was the reform process then, and what were the consequences of being actually top-down and many popular protagonists from the ruling Communist Party could not meet the expectation in the face of the Moscow reaction. At least, then, what is happening beyond the borders is at a minimum. At the same time, the year 1968 shook the whole world, and it would be a great shame not to use the anniversary and not to mention at least the most important events of this period. It is a good opportunity to look at what was happening in different countries at the time of these events in the longer term, whether from the point of view of social transformation, the development of social movements, or influence on anarchist theory and practice. The year 1968, of course, in such a small format as our magazine can not be covered in full, because it was not only a resistance to wars and a demand for fundamental social change, but also the promotion of minority rights and significant shifts in the cultural sphere.

This is why we start with a brief chronological overview of the major events brought back in 1968, which preceded him immediately and formed his context. In the contribution of Vadim Damier, whose historical studies and essays we often turn to, we find the answer to where the 1960s movement actually took place and what has been transformed in the coming decades.

The events in France, with which 1968 is probably the most common, are given by an interview by philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre with anarchist Daniel Cohn-Bendit, published in May of that year, that is, at the time of radical students' clashes with the state power. The difficult situation in which the French anarchist movement was the result of the rifts that took place in the 1950s and its role in Paris May 1968 illustrates the translation of the chapter from the historical work of the French anarchist Alexander Skirda. It also deals with how the May events affected the development of the movement in the years to come. And how Paris remembered the fifty-year-old events during this May 1st, tells the members of the Anarchist Federation who went out to the French capital on this day to taste a more massive protest than they are in our country, and a little tearful gas ,

You can also read a slightly optimistic article by Petra Rjabova about the development of the anarchist movement after 1968, a description of student protests in Poland that was then run by the Polish United Workers' Party, or an essay on the bloody suppression of student unrest in Mexico in that time by the historian and political scientist Adolf Gilly. Peteros Heumos reflects the Czechoslovak experience in his study of activities at the enterprise level and the current article of the Situationist International on the Prague Spring of 1968.

Since the main theme occupies most of the space of the magazine, there is a place left behind only by the historical look behind the roots of the Makhnovian movement in Ukraine, which did not come with Nestor Makhno, but was created by a long struggle against self-deception, charism and local landlords. In the Anarchist Federation section, we will introduce you to the Spring Summit, the meeting with representatives of the sister federations in Athens and the book novels that our publisher has prepared for this year's Anarchist Book Festival. We also bring a comprehensive report about it, as well as about the course of this first May and about the actions of the anti-authoritarian movement in recent months, where the Bílina mine blockade in the framework of Klimakempu 2018 stands out in particular.

And finally, you can read the texts that appeared in the last five months in the A3 wall paper and are devoted to authoritarian socialism, military aggression of Turkey in northern Syria, defense of the ZAD Commune in France, the two-year anniversary of Karl Marx's birth, and football. And finally we review various publications, this time to learn about the philosophy of inequality Nikolai A. Berdyayev, the second number feminist magazine Audacity , Pilsener punk zine Kawakami Rice , a book about the history of Czech fanzines I scream: "That's me." Or the Czech mutation German radically leftist magazine Sugar Street .

We wish inspirative reading.
