(en) [France] Radio Libertaire celebrates 37 years By ANA (ca, fr, it, pt) [machine translation]

Date Sun, 2 Sep 2018 09:57:57 +0300

Next Saturday, September 1, Radio Libertaire, based in Paris, will be celebrating the 37th anniversary of its first broadcast. There are already almost 40 decades of libertarian hopes, self-management, federalism, creativity and freedom of expression; powerful and rebellious voice; spreading fights, thoughts and music from all corners and styles, except military music and religious music. Next, we reproduced an interview that ANA conducted with some members of the radio 17 years ago (2001), which is still current. Joyeux Anniversaire, Radio Libertaire! ---- History of Radio Libertaire ---- The Radio Libertaire was established in 1981. Its creation date of May 1981, during a congress of the Anarchist Federation (AF) Francophone, who decided to create a free radio in Paris. Before the first broadcast in September 1981, anarchists had already taken part in other radio experiments throughout France at a time when the state had a monopoly on emissions. Earlier there was a movement where hundreds of pirate radios broadcast to challenge this monopoly. With the liberalization of broadcasting, many radios were created, among them Radio Libertaire . After the arrival of François Mitterrand (the "socialist") to power.

Initial project

At first we did not have a very elaborate project. The idea was to provide an instrument of communication. We tuned the project already with the radio in operation. We only broadcast a few hours a day, a few days a week. Slowly the staff was stepping up. The sound system we had, for example, was no better than one we have at home. Little by little the requirements have increased and we have improved the content and form of emissions. At first the radio facilities were in a basement; today it is on the first floor of a building in Paris.

How Radio Works

We are currently more than 80 animators and technicians working on the radio. Our programming is very broad - programs on hip hop, soul, funk, african culture, immigration, literature, Latin America, sexuality, esperanto, anarcho-culinary, anarchism, syndicalism, feminism, experimental music, french music, etc. We broadcast every day, we stayed 24 hours in the air. All programs have full autonomy of technical organization and content. There are four key stations on the radio: programmer, treasury, technical and public relations. The role of the coordinator is to dialogue with the teams in case of problems and to do what is necessary for new emission initiatives to materialize.

Volunteer work

We do not pay anyone to work on the radio, they're all volunteers. And we survived thanks to the generosity of the listeners and a fund that is passed on to us every year by commercial radio stations, that is, the retention of a small part of the advertising revenue of these radios. Due to the lack of money, you can not measure the audience. But we know that we are heard by many people, by the letters and phone calls we receive. The radio only reaches the region of Paris, because the "public" permission does not authorize the emission to other places. The power of our radio is 4K.

Problems with government

Today Radio Libertaire is legalized. But in 1983 we were banned from air because we did not have authorization. It was a struggle of several months to be able to return. There was even a demonstration in Paris with more than 5,000 people.
