(en) Poland, Workers' Initiative - Amazon: unions demand a meeting at the European level [machine translation]

Date Thu, 9 Aug 2018 07:27:46 +0300

On August 3, 2018, both trade union organizations operating at Amazon Fulfillment Poland sp. Zoo addressed a letter to the president of operations of Amazon, Steven Harman, regarding working conditions at Polish branches of Amazon. NSZZ Solidarnosc and OZZ Inicjatywa Pracownicza are requesting to organize a meeting with the participation of Steven Harman and representatives of two trade unions. ---- Wroclaw 03/08/2018 ---- Company's Trade Union ---- NSZZ Solidarnosc ---- Amazon Fulfillment Poland Sp. z o. o ---- Intercompany Commission ---- OZZ Employee Initiative ---- at Amazon Fulfillment Poland Sp. z o. o ---- To: ---- President of Operations for Amazon ---- Steven Harman ---- Dear President, ---- Based on the press materials that have recently appeared in the Polish press, you can say that you have committed to discuss the working conditions prevailing in Amazon Poland magazines. You also stated that the company you represent has nothing to hide in this matter. Based on our observations and information gathered from current and former employees, we come to the conclusion that the current situation in Polish logistic centers is tragic. Polish employees are treated objectively, and performance standards have been set at a level that threatens their health and life. We have the impression that in less than 4 years warehouses in Poland are treated as second-class workplaces, and Polish employees do not work in safe and dignified conditions.

We would like to inform you that pursuant to art. 4 of the On May 23, 1991, on trade unions (Journal of Laws No. 55, item 234, as amended) trade unions in Poland represent employees and defend their dignity, rights and interests. We can no longer stand passively and look at actions that are focused on ruthless exploitation combined with apparent preventive actions that only pursue statistical purposes. In the light of recent events, we have jointly established a plan for our further actions that we intend to implement. We want to inform you that our goal is to improve the working conditions, which can only be realized if there is a real willingness to cooperate. At present, we do not see such a will on the part of Amazon Poland. Previous talks with persons representing the Amazon Management Board in Poland are unproductive and in our opinion their only task is to fake a dialogue. The confirmation of our words are court judgments in Labor Courts and experts' expert opinions.

In connection with the above, we are asking you to hold a meeting in which the Lord and representatives of two trade unions representing employees of Amazon Poland will take part. We will look forward to your reply within 14 days from the date of delivery of this letter.
