(en) polemica cubana: CUBAN ANARCHISTS ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF THE ABRA: SOCIAL CENTER AND LIBERTARIAN LIBRARY (ca, fr, pt) [machine translation]

Date Tue, 15 May 2018 08:06:46 +0300

In Cuba, May 5, 2018, a new stage in the process of self-emancipation of a group of Cubans and Cubans begins with the opening of ABRA: Centro Social and Libertarian Library.
This commitment of the Libertarian Atelier Alfredo López (an anarchist, anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist initiative that emerged in 2012 that is part of the Anarchist Federation of the Caribbean and Central America), with the effective and vital participation of related groups such as that the Cuban Critical Observatory, the Guardabosques (the Ranger), as well as other individual energies, seeks to build an autonomous and sustainable space in Cuba today. ---- A space to promote experiences and practices independent of any foreign or national government, or institutions representing them, focused on the capabilities of those involved. At ABRA, we will insist on a practice that prefigures the type of sociability we dream of, and on a type of relationship respectful of the environment, which results in a minimum of consumption with a maximum of non-polluting solutions.
This new venture is essentially anti-capitalist, since capitalism promotes a kind of relationship between people based on utilitarianism, supremacy, competition, profit, all of which does not lead to the sociability we aspire to. This is supported by the states, companies and corporations that dominate and destroy the world and our country. For this reason, the Social Center is at the antipode of all that preceded historically.
On the other hand, emancipation is not possible without being part of different communities. This is why the ABRA exists in relation to these, not without ignoring the oppressions they undergo, nor the victories they win in their struggle. He is also involved in the dynamics of resistance and the creation of other related groups, which we will welcome in our Center and in our projects. ABRA aims to provide a space for all these sociabilities, people and affinity groups that are not limited to the narrow framework of conflict between the government and the opposition, but rather to address directly and on their own the various issues of the daily life and creation in all spheres of reality.
This space actively opposes discrimination based on race, ethnicity, sex, sexuality, sexual orientation, gender identity, territory, educational level, economic status and any other discrimination against human dignity. It also recognizes the plurality of thoughts (political, ideological, moral, etc.), without ever giving up exercising ours.
ABRA offers itself as a place of fraternization, in the middle of a mercantilized and supervised city, and offers a space of local, national and international counter-information, self-taught training, commemorations, celebrations, meetings; seeking to encourage the precarious, productive and autonomous counter-cultural scene existing in Havana and the Cuban region.
The Social Center is constituted as a horizontal social communication space to give a voice to national and international experiences that do not interest the hegemonic agencies, but pay tribute to an anti-authoritarian and emancipatory perspective that interests those of us who fight in Cuba.
Here the means and the ends do not contradict each other: they are the horizon, the freedom of the person, the effective participation starting from the direct implication.
