(en) France, Alternative Libertair #219 - South PTT: Post and Telecom (fr) [machine translation]××

In May, the Federal Congress of South PTT has given rise to a number of tensions. At the
end of June, the crisis was still unresolved. ---- The IXth Congress of South PTT was held
from May 7 to 11 in Frejus. This conference was attended by more than 400 militants and
dozens of guests. The conference was organized between policy report, general resolution,
postal activities, telecommunication activities, structuring and functioning of the
federation. The novelty of this conference was to introduce a resolution entitled "Our
unionism" which was an update on the South unionism in the labor field. ---- Percent
Unions ---- Unfortunately, the discussions were mainly focused on the structure-function
resolution that pointed high stakes: the independence of the two sectors - postal
activities and telecommunication activities - and the establishment of effective
coordination of members.
The conclusion is: the cross has been the poor relation of the proceedings of this
conference. While some unions have raised the total absence of inter-resolution and
therefore investment in Solidarity, the general resolution was, moreover, "shunned" by the
departmental unions, since nearly 100 unions, only five interventions were place that link
international guidelines and national weakness that was already revealed in the national
meetings before the conference.
However, the presence of international guests [1] was mainly African highlight the links
that are created international perspective among unions.
Resolutions sector, meanwhile, have not been particularly highlighted real differences,
apart from the question of the establishment of a debate on the representative
institutions (PIT) law rejected at La Poste by the participants.

Structuring and functioning of trade unions have always been clivants points in the union.
The Congress of South PTT has not escaped these questions. This led to a clash between the
text presented by the federal office and part of unions and members attending the
Congress. The independence of sectors and strengthening coordination of members initially
planned in the text have been rejected by the delegates. Heated debates, sometimes
violent, have led to a crisis in the beginning of the union. Result: a part of the federal
office belonging to the telecommunications sector has not accepted these findings and
resigned his office.
This crisis is always present. An extraordinary national meeting of all the Federation is
scheduled June 27 to establish a timetable for debate in South PTT.
Misunderstanding of the issues, real divide in the organization, the Congress of FrÃjus
leaves an impression of a mess when the fight unionism and social transformation needs to
be powerful against a government that wants to play the pretense of a new policy.
