(en) Anarkismo.net: "Revolution", by Carlo Cafiero
Date
Fri, 03 Aug 2012 08:39:41 +0300
New publication from Black Cat Press, Edmonton, Canada ---- Black Cat Press is pleased to
announce the publication of "Revolution" by Carlo Cafiero for the first time ever in
English (indeed nor has it ever been published as a complete volume in the original
Italian!). The book brings what is certainly Cafiero's most complete, original work to
English-speaking audiences for the first time. It is also an extremely important work in
that it is one of the earliest attempts at compiling a complete theoretical view of the
revolutionary ideal of anarchist communism. ---- Edited and translated by Nestor McNab
with an introduction by Pier Carlo Masini ---- Carlo Cafiero (1846–1892) is undoubtedly
one of the most important figures of the First International both in Italy, his home
country, and in general throughout Europe.
But this mild-mannered anarchist is all too often remembered only for some of the curious
episodes in his life (his participation in the Benevento uprising, his "gift" of La
Baronata to Bakunin and anarchist revolutionaries), rather than for his ideas and the
enormous influence he had on the early socialist movement in Italy.
This book brings what is certainly Cafiero's most complete, original work to
English-speaking audiences for the first time. It is also an extremely important work in
that it is one of the earliest attempts at compiling a complete theoretical view of the
revolutionary ideal of anarchist communism.
Nestor McNab is a teacher and translator living in Rome, Italy. He has translated and
edited the English edition of "The International Anarchist Congress. Amsterdam (1907)."
(Black Cat Press, 2009)
Pier Carlo Masini (1923–1998) was a noted historian who specialized in the history of the
First International in Italy. A prominent activist in the anarchist movement in his youth,
in later life he devoted himself to research and publicizing the history of the movement.
