(en) Canada, Anti-Capitalist Convergence in Montreal: Disrupt the Grand Prix (June 6-10)
Date

- Disrupt the Montreal Grand Prix ---- Support Quebec’s General & Social Strike ---- An
Anti-Capitalist/Anti-Authoritarian Convergence June 6-10, 2012 - MONTREAL ---- The
Anti-Capitalist Convergence of Montreal (CLAC) is calling for an
anti-capitalist/anti-authoritarian presence in Montreal to disrupt the Grand Prix
“jet-set”, and to support Quebec's ongoing student strike, which has become a larger
"social strike." The Convergence is also in defiance of Quebec’s new special law against
protesters and the student strike. ---- We encourage our allies and friends from all over
Quebec, the Maritimes, Ontario, and anywhere else to converge on Montreal this coming
week. -- There's a schedule of various protests and activities noted at the following links:
- http://www.clac-montreal.net/en/nepasperturber - http://www.bloquonslahausse.com/calendrier/
Basically, downtown Montreal will be a protest zone against the Grand Prix and in support
of the social strike. Disruptions are part of a larger strategy of economic disruption to
fight back against the tuition hikes, and more broadly to resist neo-liberalism and
austerity. Several community groups signed a solidarity statement that is linked here:
http://www.solidarityacrossborders.org/en/francais-solidarite-avec-la-greve-generale-etudiante
If you’re coming for the Convergence, it's useful to arrive by Wednesday, and stay for the
weekend, but come for as long as you can.
There is a disruption planned for opening cocktail of the Grand Prix on the late afternoon
of Thursday, June 7. More info about it here: http://www.clac-montreal.net/en/grandsoir
For all actions, your self-organization and autonomy is essential. This is a decentralized
convergence. Come prepared and organized.
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to organize transport or housing, so we're
counting on your self-organization skills.
CLAC will be posting useful legal information about protesting in Montreal on our website
shortly. We can provide numbers of sympathetic lawyers, and offer basic support.
Hope to see you on the streets of Montreal next week!
