(en) US, NYC, 2/14 Anarchist Forum: PROVO: Amsterdam's Anarchist Revolt

Date Sun, 15 Feb 2009 13:37:26 +0200

The-Febuary-Anarchist-Forum ---- Saturday-Febuary-14-at-2:00pm ---- PROVO: Amsterdam's
Anarchist Revolt> (The Dutch 60's Anarchist Group that shaped the European activist
groups) ---- Speakers: Jordan Zinovich, Lindsay Caplan, Janna Schoenberger & Judith Malina
The February Forum on the Provo movement (as the January Forum also did) will provide a
vision of an historic 60's anarchist group that combined elements as diverse as humor,
provocation of the police (that is where their name came from) and building social
structures to help the oppressed and poor. And a group that also had fame and wide
recognition. The main difference of course is that the group was Dutch based in Amsterdam
not the L.E.S. ---- However the anarchist politics of the 60's was worldwide and we are
looking back now at the visions and delights of the groups in those days.

And the feeling grows for a revival.

The Forum speakers ( Jordan Zinovich, Lindsay Caplan, and Janna
Schoenberger will be three folk who currently live in America but who all
have connections with the anarchist publisher Autonomedia which last year
published Richard Kempton's well liked book 'Provo: Amsterdam's
Anarchist Revolt.' They have also all studied the history of Provo. The fourth speaker
will be The Living Theatre's Judith Malina who isan
anarchist who spent a great deal of 60's time with anarchists in
Europe. In addition to the speakers and the usual question and discussion period,
there will also be several minutes of archival film showing what the Provo
events and people looked like..

>>>>The event will take place at The Living Theatre, in Manhattan at 21
Clinton St <that's the real name for Ave. B as it goes south of Houston
St> (212-792-8050). Coming from uptown, take the F or V train to "2nd
Avenue" (exit from the front of the train onto 1st Ave, walk east along
Houston and turn right on Clinton) or coming from downtown, take the F, V,
M or Z train to "Delancey-Essex" and walk east on Delancey 3 blocks then
turn left on Clinton for 2 and a half blocks.

Everybody is welcome and invited to come and to have their say. There
is no set fee for the presentation, but a contribution to aid the LBC and
Living Theatre is suggested.

If you have questions, contact the LBC/Anarchist Forum:roberterler@erols.com
