(en) Poland, Anti-fascist action in Krakow
Date
Sun, 15 Apr 2007 19:52:55 +0300
On April 14, fascists from the group ONR decided to hold a march in Krakow. It
was the 73rd anniversary of its founding, but also it was the time when Jewish
and Israeli youth come to Krakow each year for the March of the Living, a kind
of tribute to Holocaust victims. So really bad taste - and of course the march
was accompanied by different antisemitic slogans, etc. etc.
After the fiasco with the demo in Wroclaw, some liberal organizations called on
municipal authorities not to allow the march to take place, but of course they
were ignored. Other organizations promised to organize a counter-demonstration
and they did. Among the organizers of the demo was the Anarchist Federation,
Students' Initiative and Committee Free Caucuses.
The fascists were again outnumbered - more or less in the same proportions as
in Wroclaw - maybe 100 of them, maybe 300 of us - but it's hard to tell,
especially since antifa was trying to follow them, some of them were trying to
hang out in the antifascist group and plainclothes cops were in both. Not
important.
There were a number of altercations. Our group of people which went to greet
the fascists, came back to find the anti-fascists surrounded by police with
lots of gear, like gund with rubber bullets. So only some small groups of
antifa were left free and we started to agitate against the police, at which
time they came to repress us - but we got away. The problem then became that a
small group of us were just on the opposite side of the antifa demo when the
fascists came, so it was either make way for them to pass or go straight head
on at them, and when the police saw that we decided on a kamikaze action, it
was a bit of chaos. People started throwing things at them. In the chaos, a
couple of people from a bit outside the scene got stuck there, so they just
decided to throw things too and looked on the ground for something to throw -
and found a dead cat. (No joke. Black too.) So they threw the cat in the
fuhrer's face. Only three people got arrested in that action - two for throwing
things and then one for spitting on the police car and cursing after his friend
was arrested.
Unfortunately that action didn't result in an effective blockade cause it was
all sort of an accident. Then, a bit disoriented, the fascists went past the
main demo, only to meet some groups of more radical antifa who started shooting
fireworks on them, throwing objects, etc. - and those took off and chased them.
Even though the fascists were 3-4 times more, they ran off with the antifa
chasing them - at which time the police grabbed all the antifa to let the
fascists finish their march.
The funniest moment came when the fascists started crying in the media that the
antfascists were throwing black cats at them. The crazy fuhrer even claimed
that the dead cat was alive when thrown and died as a result of hitting him in
the head. Because of this, the guy who threw the cat is still in jail awaiting
autopsy results on the cat - the police are trying to determine whether the cat
was dead or alive when thrown. Of course the cat was a stiff.
After this crazy cat incident, some antifascists want to start a "Black Cat"
antifascist group with the symbol of a black cat attacking the fascists. Right
now a lot of mainstream media are discussing the whole thing, with comments
tending to congratulate the antifascists for continued resistance.
Here are some photos: (personal note only for alter people - pic. 22 is
interesting) :-)
