(en) Morocco: The situation is worse in mines Bouazar by Task Force North Africa - General Confederation of Labour (ca) [machine translation]

From April 2012, the miners of Bouazar in Ouarzazate (southern Morocco) have a fierce
struggle against the exploitative conditions imposed by the employer, which is none other
than the consortium of mining companies owned by the Moroccan royal family. ---- Since
October 15 occurred in the general strike of all sectors, convened by CDT in support of
the struggle of the miners. The mine workers called back Bouazar strike and a
concentration of 12 and 13 November, to claim their labor rights and the reinstatement of
21 dismissed and transferred by the company in April Managem (one of the holding companies
of the real) , which operates the mine, because of their union activities. --- On Monday
November 11, the Court of Appeal acquitted the eight Ouarzazate miners processed, which
has meant a victory for the strikers.
But the strike and the concentrations of 122 and 13 were violently repressed by the
police, causing many injuries, with fractures, some seriously.
Acting in collusion, the company, on one hand, dismissed on 14 November to 4 workers for
union activity and, secondly, the police arrest Hamdi Majid, leader of the local union CDT
17 N, with false accusations, to press him about the miners' strike, being released on 20 N.
Note that a caravan of solidarity of the workers in France visited Ouarzazate Moroccan.
Furthermore, the national union of energy and mining of CDT called off a national strike
in solidarity with the miners Bouazarpor pressure from the authorities, claiming the
establishment of dialogue so far lacking
The claims of miners
In addition to the reinstatement of unfairly dismissed miners, claims focus on the
compliance status of the worker. We find workers with 30 years of work in the company,
which have not been declared to the Social Security (CNS), with 3 month contracts that are
renewed year after year, without right of seniority, unpaid vacation or not, without
employment contracts, precarious indefinitely without any rights. The company used to
outsource Agzoumi to keep workers in this situation.
The Bouazar workers know well that their struggle is against the political and economic
power of the royal family, but still firm in their struggle and call for national and
international solidarity.
