(en) US, San Francisco/Oakland, Announcement: Occupy Forum in the Park Monday 9/24 at 6 pm
Date
Sat, 22 Sep 2012 13:45:16 +0300
San Francisco Pizza-Oakland, Broadway & 15th Street, Oakland (near 12th Street BART)
Topic: The Working Class Anarchist Tradition ---- Historians and authors Tom Ward and
Michael Ditmore will open up a discussion of: “The Working Class Anarchist Tradition: How
does it apply to Occupy?” ---- We will first explore some of the better known historical
moments in this continuing tradition of radical social movements that have surfaced in
various times and places: the Paris Commune of 1871; the I.W.W. and the Seattle General
Strike of 1919; the Spanish Social Revolution of 1936-7; France’s nationwide general
strike and the “movement of occupations” in 1968; and others. ---- The lessons
learned—and the useful insights acquired—during these extraordinary moments will be
reviewed in the light of Occupy Wall Street: the current popular movement against the old
world’s capitalist governments.
This discussion will be guided by a basic understanding: while working-class anarchism is
the means, a worldwide co-operative commonwealth is the goal.
“The historical process is the Author of us all.”
The last half hour will be reserved for Occupy Working Group & Affinity Group Announcements.
Location: Bradley Manning Plaza (formerly Justin Herman Plaza), conveniently located near
the Embarcadero BART Station and the Ferry Building.
We will have seating, blankets to keep you warm, amplified sound, and peacekeepers to keep
it alcohol, interruption, & smoke-free.
