The new issue of the newsletter "Direct Action", a spokesman for Libertarian Students
Front (FEL) at the University of Chile, can be read on the following link:
http://es.scribd.com/doc/98066019/AD-julio ---- It is included, plus a student situation
analysis and information concerning the Congress for a Social Education Project, a media
coordinator FIGHT on the choice of University Senate. ---- Facing the fourth election of
the University Senate ---- Students of the Chile we have seen in recent days it has
entered a new election period. This time it's the renewal of representatives and students
have in the University Senate, a body whose mission is to regulate and shape the projects
that guide the work of the University. Many political groups have already launched their
nominations, and the schools are beginning to fill with posters, sometimes losing the
substance of the discussion that must be installed at this juncture.
It is a fact that most students do not know The Senate Chile or do not know what it is or
who it up, allowing not much question the role of this body beyond voting for either
candidate . In this sense, as FIGHT believe that the choice should serve to begin
installing the debate and the need for real democracy in the University of Chile, which
exceeds the tiny and official student representation (7 and 2 seats respectively, out of
36) that is in the Senate, to move towards a triestamentalidad real.
More than ever we must be aware that schools generally operate under authoritarian logic,
where the excessive powers of the rectory across the board and deans in the colleges allow
both students and staff we bring to pass the time. Therefore, in parallel with the
struggle that we as student movement to eliminate the decrees of the dictatorship that
prevent democracy in universities and schools, we must tighten these relations also in the
domestic, to advance together with officials to get an actual triestamentalidad and
participation of the entire university community with a voice in decision making at all
levels.
We call on all students to discuss this problem and become part of the need to democratize
our University. In the same vein, we call future university senators to bring that body to
the bases, giving constant public accounts of what was discussed and decided, in addition
to being a real expression of student problems in this space.
The University Senate was won with mobilization, and likewise we must overcome and build a
university democracy real.
To discuss and take action
