Some information about the various organizations in the Brazilian Anarchist Coordination. 
-- FederaÃÃo Anarquista GaÃcha (FAG) ---- Rio Grande do Sul ---- Founded on 18 November 
1995 ---- The FederaÃÃo Anarquista GaÃcha (FAG) is an anarchist political organization 
founded on 18 November 1995, the result of a context which saw various libertarian groups 
spread across different parts of Rio Grande do Sul (Juventude LibertÃria, which brought 
together activists from Porto Alegre, Canoas, GuaÃba and GravataÃ; the Grupo Ativista 
LibertÃrio (GAL) from Alegrete, and the Coletivo de AÃÃo LibertÃria (CALIBRE) from SÃo 
Leopoldo) which, in an environment of discussion and the search for organizational 
alternatives for anarchist militants, ended up coming together and founding the FAG.

The historical experience of the FederaciÃn Anarquista Uruguaya and its organizational 
model, Especifism, had an important effect on our development. In these 15 years and more, 
we were present and involved in a series of experiences of popular struggle. We 
contributed modestly to the formation of the Movimento Nacional dos Catadores de Materiais 
ReciclÃveis (National Movement of Recyclable Material Collectors - MNCR), in the 
construction of several Popular Resistance Committees on the outskirts of Porto Alegre, in 
organizing students together with the comrades of the TendÃncia LibertÃria MobilizaÃÃo 
Direta (Libertarian Tendency for Direct Mobilization - TLMD), in universities and high 
schools, and fighting for a different model of university in the suburbs of Porto Alegre 
through the Coletivo pela Universidade Popular (Collective for a Popular University - 
COLUP). We also participated shoulder to shoulder the struggles against the FTAA and the 
IMF and in a series of fights together with movements like the Movimento dos Trabalhadores 
Desempregados (Unemployed Workers Movement - MTD) and the Movimento dos Trabalhadores 
Rurais Sem Terra (Movement of Landless Rural Workers - MST).

In addition to our "social insertion", from 2001 to 2010 our former federal premises 
served as a venue for meetings, internal education debates, as a propaganda base, and a 
centre for cultural events. The premises hosted the Conquest of Bread Library, which has 
now moved to our new headquarters, the Ateneu LibertÃrio A Batalha da VÃrzea. From the 
start, we never lost sight of the work of propaganda, with posters, street murals and 
various campaigns. We have always aimed for the construction of a nationwide anarchist 
organization and indeed in 1996 we took part in the "Process of Brazilian Anarchist 
Construction" along with several groups, which however turned out to be premature and did 
not continue.

Today, the FAG's members are active in various fronts - the trade unions, student 
struggles, communications (community radio) and the countryside (MST) - working daily in 
defence of grassroots organization, direct democracy and action, class independence and 
solidarity, with the goal of building Popular Power.

Coletivo Anarquista Zumbi dos Palmares (CAZP)

Alagoas
Founded on 2 March 2002

The Zumbi dos Palmares Anarchist Collective (CAZP) was born out of its militants' 
activities within the student movement; throughout this experience, it was active at the 
grassroots level of the movement, in student organizations and groupings. As a 
demonstration of class solidarity, we have always tried to be with the struggles of the 
social movements in Alagoas.

Today, besides our presence in the student struggles, we are also organized in our labour 
and community fronts. In the former, together with workers in education and healthcare, we 
seek to restore trade union practices in which grassroots democracy and first-hand 
involvement predominate. In the community, we seek to empower people through activities 
that focus on culture and communication in particular. In 2008, together with other 
comrades, we participated in the foundation (in our state) of the ResistÃncia Popular 
tendency (Popular Resistance), something which has been crucial to opening up our 
trade-union and community fronts.

In the political sphere we joined the FAO in 2005, something which allowed us to make 
progress both in social activism and on the political and organizational level, and to 
gradually take on the form of an especifista organization. As part of the process of 
building a nationwide anarchist body of the especifista type, our aim in Alagoa was to 
contribute so that the political and social strength of anarchism could resonate in the 
struggles of the oppressed classes for justice and freedom.

Rusga LibertÃria (RL)

Mato Grosso
Founded in 2006

Rusga LibertÃria (RL) is a class-struggle anarchist organization with the principles of 
direct action, direct democracy, federalism, internationalism, the class struggle and 
libertarian ethics, which was founded in early 2006 as a result of a long process of 
discussion and reflection among Cuiabano anarchists whose intention was to bring social, 
militant anarchism back to the position it once held when it was the driving force behind 
the struggles of oppressed people in the past. We operate in CuiabÃ, the capital of Mato 
Grosso.

Before even acting as a political organization, militants were working in a neighborhood 
on the outskirts of CuiabÃ, with the work being carried on by comrades who would go on to 
build the RL; this work, begun more than 10 years ago, still goes on to this day.

We work in the struggle for public transport - principally in favour of free passes and 
against the increasing abuse of ticketing - a fight that saw major mobilizations in the 
city at one time. Apart from that, we divide our work into fronts.

We had militants who worked in the student front during the period of rectory occupations 
and the fight against university reform, which lasted until the year 2009, when we decided 
to give priority to other fronts. This shift in priorities involved our focus on building 
a more combative struggle in the Parque GeÃrgia neighborhood, where we built the 
headquarters of the Centro de Cultura Popular/ResistÃncia Popular (Center for Popular 
Culture/Popular Resistance), with our own hands, and maintain a community radio and other 
activities. Other comrades have been active in the development of a trade-union front in 
education (and which they still are to date), acting as an opposition to the current 
leadership of the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores no Ensino PÃblico (Public Education Workers 
Union - SINTEP); now in 2012, we are working on building an opposition platform.

Since 2011, with the arrival of new members, we were able to return to the struggle in the 
student front and were active in the Academic Centre of the course of the Social Sciences 
course, and also in a Left Front, making a tactical alliance with other left-wing currents 
in the university with whom we have carried out some struggles together in recent years. 
We have also been involved in the fight against the privatization of SANECAP (the 
capital's water distribution company, which was privatized), and against the privatization 
of public health care.

In the past three months of 2012, we have been active in the struggle for housing and 
against the eviction of about 300 families on land near the Parque GeÃrgia neighborhood, 
part of a "cleanup" of the urban centres in view of the 2014 World Cup. The fight was hard 
and hectic but ultimately ended in a great victory, which the social movements in the city 
had not had for several years. It was a fight which, apart from a strong spirit of 
solidarity among the majority of residents involved in the occupation, has now transformed 
the neighborhood into one which today is ready to act in other neighborhoods that will 
need to put up similar resistance. That victory, along with the residents of the Canaà 
Settlement, is a milestone for the popular, combative struggle in Cuiabà and in the state 
of Mato Grosso itself.

FederaÃÃo Anarquista do Rio de Janeiro (FARJ)

Rio de Janeiro
Founded on 30 August 2003

The FARJ has three fronts of social struggle. The oldest is the Community Front, whose 
main activity is concentrated in the Centro de Cultura Social (CCS), located in the 
district of Vila Isabel. Militants there are involved in several areas among the 
community, the most important being the PrÃ-Vestibular ComunitÃrio Solidariedade 
(Solidarity Community College-Preparatory), organized in conjunction with comrades from 
the NÃcleo Complexo dos Macacos do Movimento dos Trabalhadores Desempregados "Pela Base!", 
activists and supporters of the OrganizaÃÃo Popular, as well as former students and some 
teachers. Since 2001, the CCS-RJ has been home to the Biblioteca Social FÃbio Luz (FÃbio 
Luz Social Library), and since 2004, the Marques da Costa Research Centre (NÃcleo de 
Pesquisa Marques da Costa), both tied to the organization.

The Frente de Movimentos Sociais Urbanos (Urban Social Movements Front - FMSU, formerly 
the Occupations Front) started its operations with the movement of occupations in Rio de 
Janeiro, having participated in the founding of the Internationalist Front of the Homeless 
(FIST) in 2005. Having left the FIST in late 2007, the front expanded its work and became 
part of the MTD-RJ, and subsequently setting up the MTD "Pela Base!", whose central 
struggle is based on the demands of the unemployed and precarious. The FMSU is also active 
in the Sindicato dos Servidores do ColÃgio Pedro II (SINDSCOPE - teachers and 
administrative staff union at large high school), building grassroots trade-unionism with 
ties to the popular movements through the PrÃ-Vestibular Solidariedade in the favela of 
Marà (Baixa do Sapateiro) and with the Linha Cultural, an activity that uses hip hop as an 
instrument for protest.

Newer is the Anarchism and Nature Front (FAN), formerly called the Agro-Ecological Front. 
The ANA was formed in late 2007 with the aim of strengthening, supporting and developing - 
with the rural social movements - political work that seeks to intensify the class 
struggle in the agricultural and ecological field, cooperative grassroots work, and 
comprehensive education from the perspective of education for the countryside. It made 
major organizational advances with the foundation of the NÃcleo de SaÃde e AlimentaÃÃo 
Germinal (Germinal Centre for Food and Health, extinct in Rio de Janeiro) and the 
Cooperativa de Trabalhadores em Agroecologia Floreal (Floreal Cooperative of Workers in 
Agro-Ecology). Currently, members of the FAN are active in the Landless Workers Movement 
(MST-RJ) and the political and pedagogical coordination of degree courses in Agricultural 
Education at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro.

From their grassroots organizations, FARJ militants also contribute to the construction 
of the OrganizaÃÃo Popular (Popular Organization - OP), a grouping of tendency that brings 
together different social activists who advocate a method of organizing in the struggles 
and the demands of the people, which strengthens the role of the grassroots and the idea 
of popular power, and operating in the student, trade-union and popular movements.

OrganizaÃÃo Anarquista Socialismo LibertÃrio (OASL)

SÃo Paulo
Founded on 18 November 2009

In a process that began in early months of 2008, the OASL organized broad-based meetings 
to discuss especifista anarchism, with the aim of reorganizing anarchism in the city. With 
the significant influence from the FederaÃÃo Anarquista do Rio de Janeiro (FARJ), the 
two-year process culminated in the foundation in late 2009 of the Anarchist Federation of 
SÃo Paulo, later called OASL. The FARJ participated in important encounters of 2008 and 
2009 and the FederaÃÃo Anarquista GaÃcha (FAG) in the one in 2009, representing a 
fundamental element of support for the formation of the organization.

On the social level, the OASL has been working since its inception both by participating 
in grassroots bodies and by seeking to create popular movements in the metropolitan area. 
The work that has gone on longer is that in the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem 
Terra (Movement of Rural Landless Workers - MST), through the Greater SÃo Paulo region, 
with work at the grassroots in settlements that focuses on political education and on 
education; there are also initiatives in production, with the sale of products from these 
farmers. We have been involved in various types of work at the community level ââsince the 
beginning of the process: in the East Zone of the city and, more recently, in the South 
Zone, such as in our participation in the Rede Extremo Sul (a community network). We have 
been involved in trade-union struggles such as that of bank workers and more recently our 
work with State schoolteachers in the APEOESP union. Among students, too, there have been 
some initiatives. All this work has been carried out by OASL members through their 
participation in the OrganizaÃÃo Popular Aymberà (Aymberà Popular Organization - OFP), a 
grouping of tendency that led the organization of the 9th Latin American Meeting of 
Popular Autonomous Organizations (ELAOPA).

At the political level, the OASL has participated in the FAO since 2010, and as a full 
member since 2011, when it hosted the annual meeting of the FAO Conference and the 
"Anarchist Days" festival, with the participation of militants from various Latin 
countries. Working inside the FAO, the OASL provided secretaries, presented organizational 
and programmatic documents, and organized relationships, including visits to other 
anarchist organizations. It has conducted internal educational training sessions, debates, 
lectures and public activities to attract people. Together with the FARJ, it has developed 
a political training programme on anarchism. With regard to propaganda, it has distributed 
the publications of the FAO and books published by FaÃsca PublicaÃÃes, prepared material 
for the Anarkismo.net site and also produced pamphlets and specific materials, such as 
"Anarchism especifista and People Power." It has also promoted the creation of new nuclei 
in other regions of the state.

Coletivo Anarquista Bandeira Negra (CABN)

Santa Catarina
Founded in August 2011

The Coletivo Anarquista Bandeira Negra (Black Flag Anarchist Collective - CABN) emerged in 
the city of FlorianÃpolis, later establishing a group in the city of Joinville and a 
nucleus in ChapecÃ, in view of forming a statewide organization. The CABN was born as an 
especifista anarchist organization, in the tradition of the FederaciÃn Anarquista Uruguaya 
(FAU) and the member organizations of the Forum of Organized Anarchism (FAO), now the 
Brazilian Anarchist Coordination (CAB), which we are joining.

The CABN believes in a type of anarchism that is in direct contact with the popular 
struggles, within the working class. Since its beginnings, it has participated in the 
urban social movements, especially in the struggles for public transport, both in 
FlorianÃpolis and Joinville, in addition to activity in independent media groups reporting 
on the social struggles. In FlorianÃpolis, we are starting to work on the community front 
with the prospects of starting a libertarian tendency in the student movement, where we 
are already active in some areas such as the construction of the EstÃgio Interdisciplinar 
de VivÃncia (EIV-SC), a programme with social movements of rural workers. In the city of 
Joinville, the CABN also works with the Centre for Human Rights (CHR), and in Chapecà it 
is engaged in trade-union activities, with a presence in the SINASEFE-SC (trade union for 
teachers, mostly employed at the Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina) and in the 
construction of a union branch of the ANDES union for workers at the Universidade Federal 
da Fronteira Sul.

Apart from these fronts, the CABN organizes the Libertarian Studies Circle in 
FlorianÃpolis, which has seen a growth in popularity and encourages discussions from the 
libertarian perspective, as well as other events such as one on May Day, with renewed 
demands for a class-based, combative May Day to counteract the risk of the date falling 
into oblivion. In Joinville, the CABN is also building an Anarchist Ideas and Practices 
Study Group (GEIPA).

OrganizaÃÃo ResistÃncia LibertÃria (ORL)

Founded in 2008

The OrganizaÃÃo ResistÃncia LibertÃria (Libertarian Resistance Organization - ORL) was 
founded in late 2008, by a number of anarchist students who had participated in student 
struggles the previous year, and some former members of the defunct Rupture Collective and 
Libertarian Commune groups, who had for some time been talking about the need for 
organized action by anarchists in the struggles and social movements. This was precisely 
the starting point which enabled the convergence of these two waves of militants and the 
formation of an organization based around commonly-held political objectives, methods of 
operation and organizational forms.

Currently, the ORL carries out its work on two fronts: community and trade union. For more 
than two years the organization has been active in work in the community, in areas 
affected by the works for the 2014 World Cup. We have contributed since the beginning of 
this popular struggle, which has led to the creation of the Struggle Movement in Defence 
of Housing (MLDM), which networks the communities impacted by this mega-event. Currently, 
the organization is stepping up its activity in the struggle of these communities, with 
its members contributing in various activities, always with the aim of encouraging the 
struggle to be as libertarian as possible so that the movement can be autonomous, 
combative and self-managed, and that its decision-making processes can be horizontal.

In the last year, we began to work in the trade-union struggles, trying in our modest way 
to give some drive to the struggles in the public education sector, against the 
government's attacks on public education and against the trade-union bureaucracy that has 
existed for decades in the teachers' union in the state. Our political practice has been 
to strengthen the autonomy and the organization of teaching as opposed to the parasitic 
structure maintained by the union leadership, helping to build grassroots organizational 
structures such as the Zonal Network, which has has a fundamental role and was responsible 
for some of the most radical actions in the last statewide teachers' strike.

Coletivo Anarquista Luta de Classe (CALC)

ParanÃ
Founded in October 2010

The CALC organizes its work in fronts and nuclei; currently in a community front and in a 
student front, with only one single nucleus (central). Besides its social militancy, it is 
also engaged in the sale of books from libertarian publishers once a month, in running the 
Libertarian Studies Circle (CEL) - a venue for study and internal/external education - and 
in producing its newsletter "No Batente" (The Anvil).

The student front is active within the Coletivo Quebrando Muros (CQM), the university 
student movement, organized by faculty in the Paranà Federal University, and is now also 
active together with the community of Vila Torres and the high school students from public 
schools. The CQM is no longer just a student tendency, as it was when it was set up in 
mid-2009. Since 2012, it has established new social fronts, such as the community front, 
which includes former militants of Germinal in its collective, while keeping its nuclei in 
the student front. Indeed, its student work has been consolidated with Polytechnic, 
Psychology, Social Sciences, History and Law nuclei, accumulating forces for a fighting 
left. This front is starting two new projects: the organization of a community 
college-preparatory course together with students from the ColÃgio Estadual Hildebrando de 
AraÃjo (Jardim BotÃnico), and a political education course at the ColÃgio Estadual Manoel 
Ribas aimed at the young people from the school (Vila Torres).

The community front also focuses its activities on Vila Torres. Until last year, acting 
through Germinal but separate to it and as an approach to the CQM, it worked in a 
community front set up by this collective. Since October 2008 it has been carrying on work 
within schools and the community, such as supporting the agro-ecological garden at the 
ColÃgio Estadual Manoel Ribas and participating in the network of community groups. It has 
also participated in events such as the Jornadas de Agroecologia (Agro-Ecology Days) and O 
Grito dos ExcluÃdos (The Cry of the Excluded).

Coletivo Anarquista NÃcleo Negro (CANN)

Pernambuco
Founded 2012

The Black Nucleus Anarchist Collective (CANN) has had a short life so far, arising out of 
activity together with housing movements, urban occupations, in a group that at the time 
was called Coletivo Autonomia.

We needed to move to an organizational model that gives support to our intentions within 
clearly anarchist field; after all, those who were part of the collective identified with 
this ideology. It was thus that we came across the especifista organizational model, 
already adopted by some of the groups with a history in the country, linked to the FAO. 
Today, the NÃcleo Negro is active in the trade union movement and the community through 
its two fronts.
