Since 2008, around the world, the working class struggle against the austerity policies
that attempt to make them swallow at once servile speeches and police violence. The
determination is great, the fights are sometimes epic, but the victories are unfortunately
very rare. The Students have now Quebec while their hands to create a breach in this long
journey of popular defeats and retreat. ---- Victory at Your Fingertips ---- "We demand
students not to go on strike". ---- Politicians and columnists have tried to make us
believe that this strike was intended to pass the buck to the "middle class" and that the
cause was a selfish student. Loop, as does the propaganda machine, was repeated and
repeated (and repeated and repeated) that the students were "lazy", "communists", the
"scum" and "mindless" , the "spoiled baby" ...
But the strikers so believed by politicians and columnists, still continued.
We were then told that their strike was a "boycott" and they would be the only ones paying
the consequences. Far from the minister, directions that educational institutions of the
Federation of CEGEPs, threats going in this direction have been many.
But students were not afraid. And they renewed the strike that cost millions of dollars
every day in government.
Was then added that the general assemblies were not democratic and that they were subject
to intimidation. Apparently paradoxical fact: the same columnists who expose this pseudo
intimidation (which is based on anecdotal remarks of some members of the Liberal Party)
not a word about police brutality, for his part well documented and objectively more brutal.
But students and students know their assemblies. They know they allow everyone without
exception to speak. They know they are qualitatively more democratic than that ersatz
parliamentary democracy subservient to the money.
So they continued to against all, based on direct democracy, on their own authority, to
continue the fight.
To please the public who looks all sofas nestled in quiet of the province, we also asked
students to be more wise and respectful. They were asked to stop the blockades and
occupations. They were asked to remove their mask and give the course of their manifestation.
But again, they did not listen.
With or without the agreement of the police, they have expressed, demonstrated and yet
manifested. They blocked the Jacques Cartier, Champlain and Concord, blocked access to
Loto Quebec, blocked access to the landing docks of the SAQ, blocked the port of Montreal
(four times!), Blocked the National Bank , repeatedly blocked the administrative offices
of their universities. They defended the lines of pickets against the forces of order and
the violence of reactionary students, set up barricades to defy the orders, attacked
(literally!) the banquet of the shareholders' meeting of the National Bank, painted in red
the Ministry of Education, disrupted a dinner with Jean Charest, hung a red flag at the
Jacques Cartier Bridge, locusts infested the HEC ...
That left the club. They sent the police who, with all the courage and discernment that he
knows, did his job with zeal and passion. She obviously did not embarrassed to suppress
peaceful demonstrations and break lines of pickets. She also used many illegal means to
achieve it: threats, illegal searches and arrests, police unidentified, use stun grenades
to floor height, etc..
But Students are not returned home. Instead, they redoubled their ardor and determination
in their actions.
That leaves the power of judges. For those who are too cowardly to debate democratically
policy, the use of lawyers can still be useful (at least for those who can afford it). It
is now a sudden injunctions that opponents of the strike are trying to stop the momentum
of protest. In some four or five institutions, they prohibit the picketing lines and
disruption of classes. The Minister, with all the courage that it requires, is now calls
the "forced return to class." Too weak to face the music, it's behind the power of judges
to manage the conflict
But Students are not fooled. They know that their authority is not required to submit to
the law. They know it is not in progress that will be settled this strike. And they fight,
these injunctions.
We have already said, this strike is history. It is the longest and most turbulent history
of Quebec. Strikers clashed with demagoguery and sentimentality of right-wing columnists,
brutality and arrogance of the police, cowardice and contempt for the government, threats
from educational institutions and the injunctions of Judges.
The Students have refused to submit to the logic of the status quo they are fighting. They
refused to obey, and unfortunately for the government and its allies is that they draw
their strength disobedience.
But will they hold out long enough? Will they have the courage to continue this strike
until the government falters? Will they go after their fight, their ideals?
Since 2008, around the world, the working class struggle against the austerity policies
that attempt to make them swallow at once servile speeches and police violence. The
determination is great, the fights are sometimes epic, but the victories are unfortunately
very rare. The Students have now Quebec while their hands to create a breach in this long
journey of popular defeats and retreat.
Victory is now at your fingertips. Just for the strikers, shaking his fists a few days. If
the strike is already history, just imagine how the victory would be ...
