Please support these brothers! --------------------- Forwarded message: From: robmcb@igc.apc.org (Rob McBride) Sender: owner-prisonact-list@igc.apc.org To: prisonact-list@igc.org (Prison Activist List) Date: 97-08-05 02:05:51 EDT COME TO THE HEARING! Weds, Aug. 27 in NYC There is a court appearance on Wednesday, August 27 on the last appeal for the New York Three (Jalil Bottom, Nuh Washington, and Herman Bell). It is at 9:30 a.m. in Part 46, 100 Center Street, New York City. It is important for as many people to attend as possible. Please attend and ask any friends in the New York area to attend -- SPREAD THE WORD! Jalil Bottom, Nuh Washington, and Herman Bell are U.S. political prisoners who were members of the Black Panther Party and then part of the armed wing of the Black Liberation Movement of the 60's and early 70's. This armed wing, the Black Liberation Army, was formed for the protection of New Afrikans against the onslaught of police brutality and racist attacks in Black communities nationwide. As a result of their courageous sacrifices, they were targeted along with thousands of other Black Panthers and activists for elimination. The FBI COINTELPRO plan directed Black militants be "arrested on every possible charge until they could no longer make bail ... the purpose of counterintelligence action is to disrupt the BPP, and it is immaterial whether the facts substantiate the charge." The NY3 have been imprisoned now for a quarter of a century. The NY3 were charged with killing two New York City police in May of 1971. Their first trial ended in a hung jury. The second time around, the prosecution both tortured witnesses and threatened to take away their children in order to obtain false testimony against the NY3. The judge would not allow the defense to introduce evidence of the FBI's COINTELPRO plan. Twenty yers later, a federal district court judge determined that a NYC detective committed perjury during the NY3 trial regarding the FBI's involvement in the case.
