Eight years later ... REMEMBERING TIANANMEN

On June 4th, 1989, hundreds, if not thousands, of students and workers were murdered at Tiananmen Square. One of the perpetrators of that massacre, President Jiang Zemin of China, will be a "guest" in Vancouver during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit this November at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

THIS June 3rd and 4th, students and youth from UBC, Simon Fraser University (SFU) and across Vancouver will remember Tiananmen as part of ongoing grassroots activity *opposing* APEC and its corporate-ruled agenda. Everyone is welcome to attend the following commemorations:

-- TUESDAY, June 3rd, 7pm -- A showing of the award winning documentary film about the Tiananmen Massacre: "The Gate of Heavenly Peace." At the La Quena Coffee House (1111 Commercial Drive).

-- TUESDAY, June 3rd, MIDNIGHT -- An overnight vigil at the Goddess of Democracy Statue at UBC (near the bus loop at the Student Union Building). Bring candles, flowers, sleeping bag and a tent.

-- WEDNESDAY, June 4th, NOON -- A commemoration ceremony at the Goddess of Democracy Statue, followed by an action at the UBC Museum of Anthropology, site of the upcoming APEC Leaders' Summit.

Presented by APEC ALERT at UBC and the APEC Action Group at SFU.
