The occupation at Melbourne University ended at 5pm this afternoon, after 25 hours, when those inside voted to leave the admin building en masse. They had spent most of that time without food/water/toilets/power, although hundreds of students had spent much of the day trying to get food up to them on the 2nd floor.

I understand that no-one was arrested, although there was talk by the vice chancellor of possible criminal damage charges being laid.

I have heard all of this second-hand, having spent the day at home doing child-care - perhaps someone who was there can add something more, including the broader context of the current unrest on Australian campuses. Certainly it has been some considerable time since campus occupations have occured in Austalia as anything but isolated events, yet now we have had at least two in the last month (the other at UTS in Sydney).
