The U.S. Out of Korea Committee of the International Action Center will host a forum to discuss the general strike of workers in south Korea and how it affects workers in every part of the globe. The south Korean workers' strike is an inspiring display of workers' solidarity and militancy in answer to the repressive and anti-labor laws passed by the south Korean government. These laws give management more power to lay-off workers, eliminate the long tradition of job security, and bring in scabs to replace strikers. In addition to these blatant attacks on the workers, the laws give more power to the Korean secret police, a.k.a. the Agency for National Security Planning. Since the strikes began on December 26th, the south Korean government and its police have stepped up repression against the striking workers. The continuing resistence is a historic struggle for democracy and for rights for all working people.
