EXCERPT FROM:

HARRINGEY COMMUNITY ACTION
ISSUE 11
BOX 2474, LONDON N8
---------------------------------

FOR A WORLD WITHOUT BORDERS

Haringey Coalition Against the Asylum Bill is made up of local
people who oppose by any means necessary, the government's
Asylum Immigration Bill due to become law this Autumn.=20

This law will end the right of anybody claiming asylum after they
have entered the countly to housing, child benefit, income support,
council tax and other benefits.Employers will also be penalised if=20
they employ someone from abroad, who is not legally entitled to
work here.=20

But we believe that immigration controls and punishing people
whose only crime is that they are fleeing possible death torture or
imprisonment is not the answer to the many problems we face in
this country. Immigration controls don't protect housing, jobs, the
NHS or welfare benefits - but they do make us fight amongst
ourselves while the "Fat Cats" laugh all the way to the bank.

Yorkshire Water's head has made a fortune of not providing water
- Health Authority bosses pay each other all kinds of perks and
expenses - and when Cedric Brown "retired" from British Gas he
got a =A3250,000 pension. It is people like this who are the real
"spongers" and parasites and the real reason why we have low
wages, poor housing, a crumbling NHS and benefits disappearing
- not a few thousand asylum seekers and refugees as some
Conservative MP's and the media would have us believe.=20

We're all under attack and we all need to stand together to fight for
everybody's basic right to a roof over your head, clothes on your
back and food in your stomach; otherwise very soon we could
become like America which has never bothered with such luxuries
as a Welfare State, and where if you're poor you don't even have
access to something as basic as medical care because you can't
afford the medical insurance.=20

Also the government never gives us the FACTS about
immigration, such as between 1988 and 1992 more people came to
this country from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa than
from the rest of Africa, the Indian Sub-Continent and the
Caribbean, or that more people left this country in 1993 than came
to live here. But this would mean the govemment telling us the
truth - and as we all know this has never been one of their
priorities.=20

We therefore invite any individuals or groups who are interested in
fighting the Asylum Bill to join the campaign. We hold regular
meetings and if you would like more inforrnation about us and our
activities then either phone 341-6412 or write to us c/o PO BOX
2474, London, N8 OHW.=20
