FBI COMPUTERIZED MUG SHOTS
The FBI is setting up standards for computerized mug shots and
facial images. At a conference entitled the "Mug Shot and Facial
Image Standards Conference" sponsored by the FBI and the Institute
of Standards and Technology, attached to the Commerce Department,
law enforcement officials an indstry security consultants met last
week in Gaithersburg, MD to develop guidelines for a national mug
shot database. The mug shot database will augment FBI's electronic
fingerprint and criminal history files. One company involved in
the effort, VSE Corporation has been testing commercial face-
