I've been to many ralliies/demos /protests against the govt in general
and anti-poverty demos. Up until those puny barriers came crashing
down this demo was the same as the rest. A lot of the same message
over and over,we gotta come together and defeat mike Hairass
because he's such a meany. There was barely a mention about
alternatives to the facist agenda, just a lot of different people
talking about how the people they feel they represent will be
affected by Hairass. With the exception of a couple of speakers,
John Clarke of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty who gave an on
point radical and emotional speech, as usual, the kind of speech
needed when 7000+ people are on the footsteps of Queens Park, and a
native speaker, who's name I forgot, who gave an emotional speech
about unity between native peoples struggle and the struggle to
fight against Hairass, I found the speeches to be mundane and
they didn't utilize the energy of the people.
Ironically John Clarke was credited with inciting the "riot" with
his speech by the main stream media. Of course it wasn't 500
people pissed off that children will starve and people will be
getting evicted from there homes starting next month. No it was
some radical lefty inciting violence.
It wasn't just the medias complete inaccurate coverage of the
incident of us clashing with the police that pissed me off but
there inabiliity to capture the spirit of the demo. taking a
historical demo against an evil govt into a riot by a buncch of
violent whiners.
anyway i gotta get back to work
peace out

Right on, Jeff!
This was the first rally in T.O. in which I've been bonked with a cop's
stick, and caught the corner of a pepperspray attack - perhaps Toronto is
quiet as compared to the poll tax protests in England.
The riots haven't even begun yet.
