This is a call for help for the university students in Nicaragua in their
struggle for the 6%.

The problem in brief
--------------------

The 6% campaign has as its objective the provision of a university education
for the people of Nicaragua without fees and with grants etc. Without this
money the universities will havve to be privatised or begin to charge
students and cut grants. The question is that without further education
Nicaragua will simply fill up with manual workers and the only professionals
you will find will be those who have money.. Hmmmm... that says it all.

This struggle for the 6% is a recurrent theme which happens every year (1992
saw a particularly vigourous campaign). However, this year, on Wednesday
13th December during a peaceful march on the National Assembly the students
were massacred: hundreds of tear gas cannisters and AK and revolver gunshot.
(TN see previous postings for details:=

If anyone is interested in more information they can write to me or go to my
page and visit the 6% section where shortly there will be photos of the
massacre (Isn't it marvellous! They show no photos of the dead simply photos
showing the police firing at point blank range).

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1/ We are organising a support campaign for the students. If you are a
member of an institution or organisation you can show your support by, for
example, sending mail to my address:

dlabs@ibw.com.ni

saying you are in favour of the students demand for 6%. We will publish this
at the university along with other messages of support. Please include your
name, address and 'e'-mail address.

2/ Another way of helping (less for institutions, more for individuals) is
to send 'e'-mail to the National Assembly whose address is:

ann-fopr@ibw.com.ni
cc: ann-sys@ibw.com.ni

Any mail, in order for it to be easily identified, should (well if you wish)
should carry the subject line 'En apoyo al 6%' or '6% ya' and in the body
the statement 'apoyamos a los estudiantes en su lucha por el 6%' (TN we
support the students demand for the 6%) and a statement in favour of the
students. Whether or not you wish to sign is your decision

Thanking you in anticipation
