Faced with the selection and the other elitist measures closing even more the higher
education to the popular classes, the end of the academic year is marked by an
acceleration of the mobilization in several facs. ---- Despite the period of exams, high
school and high school students continue to coordinate between institutions such as Paris
or Rennes, distributing leaflets, organizing high school AG, filter dams, blocks. Support
from students is always helpful in dealing with the difficulties of organizing, as long as
it does not replace it. Many high school students will have no assignments when Parcoursup
starts giving the results on May 22, the date of mobilization of the public service. ----
A student mobilization that is growing ! ---- Almost all the universities in Paris are now
mobilized and coordinated among themselves. In response, facs were closed
administratively, and the police expelled, wounded and arrested students, as in Nanterre
and Tolbiac, the director having let her in. The " free commune of Tolbiac " (Paris-I)
which voted for the occupation until the withdrawal of the ORE law allowed to gather in AG
nearly 800 students, organizing workshops to make live this open university. In
Saint-Denis (Paris-VIII), in addition to the occupation of an amphitheater to house exiles
for three months, 1,000 people voted to block the college until April 20. And the Sorbonne
was occupied by 400 people following the AG interfac, for the first time since 2006 !
It is in Toulouse that the movement was massified the earlier, because it is in the
continuity of a fight against the merger of the University Jean-Jaurès (Mirail) with other
facs Toulouse. The project was expected to result in degraded working conditions, job cuts
for staff, higher tuition fees for students, increasingly opaque boards of directors,
increased private interest, and valorization of " excellence " sectors and laboratories
To the detriment of what does not meet the needs of the market economy. The strike was
initiated from December by staff, supported by unions such as CGT Ferc-Sup, Sud Educ and
FSU, and was joined by students. Several boards of directors have been invaded and the
movement has begun to assert its opposition to both merger and selection. The AGs then
began to grow and the mobilization hardened in early 2018. In early March, the GA
student-staff voted the blocking of the Mirail campus, and the following MAs were massive,
sometimes culminating at 2,000 people, and renewing the lock at each GA. The continuation
or not of the blocking must be voted at the next GA, after the holidays. The threat of
police intervention is in everyone's head. The local bourgeois media did everything to
discredit the blockage and occupation of Mirail. This is why the mobilized have fought
their way by invading the premises ofLa Dépêche du Midi to impose the publication of a
non-modifiable press release.
For a democratic student coordination
In Lyon, as in Grenoble, while the students against the selection and the student unions
struggling to get the mobilization started, the field work began to bear fruit, with 1400
students in Grenoble voting blocking buildings. This burst later comes also from the
desire to fight against the repression and disgust following the media coverage of the
fascist attack at the university of Montpellier. The extreme right reveals its true role
in attacking the social movement, as in Strasbourg, Paris or Lille. The best answer to
fafs, beyond the self-defense of our mobilizations, is to continue to expand our movement,
to be ever more numerous and determined.
Faced with the repression, other sectors in struggle support us, as in Marseille, where
the CGT port union says it will respond with a strike to any police or fascist aggression
against the occupation of Saint Charles University !
Mobilization is struggling to coordinate nationally. Although the National Coordination of
Struggle (CNL) or the National Student Coordination (CNE) have set dates for national
mobilization, they are not free from reproach. The CNL operates without mandates, so
without democratic control over the decisions that are made there. The CNE, it was
initially controlled by activists of the UNEF who, instead of respecting the mandates of
their AG, acted according to the instructions of their union, including being mandated by
phantom AG, gathering only a handful of students whose goal is to give more voice to UNEF
during the coordination. By increasing the difference of voice between small and large AG,
these maneuvers have less weight. For us, libertarian communists,
As partial and holidays approached, in mid-April, nearly half of the schools were blocked,
with massive AGs like in Rennes-II on April 16 with 4,000 students, of which more than
3,000 voted renewal of the block until April 30th. In faculties where highly-attended GAs
are held, preventing the holding of examinations is possible. Convergence with staff and
teachers is therefore important for students to get their year. The challenge is also to
include students who have just entered the mobilization so that the occupations are alive,
and that the actions outside the facs are widely followed, in order to support the
railwaymen, teachers, hospital staff, employees on strike at Carrefour, in the air sector,
or at the Post Office. The only way to win is to converge the mobilizations. It is a
movement of magnitude that we need, a general strike and renewable that is not to invoke
but to build methodically. The youth must be at the rendezvous, continue to organize
ourselves self-management, convince more and more people to mobilize and go to meet the
workers in struggle !
