(en) Czech, afed: Support for Markéta and Mirka - We are joining the call for solidarity with activists prosecuted in Turkey to support the Kurds fighting the Islamic state. [machine translation]

Date Thu, 31 Aug 2017 14:38:25 +0300

Activists Markéta Všelichová and Miroslav Farkas were arrested on November 13, 2016, when they tried to cross Turkey from Iraq to Iraq via the Habur border crossing. The Turkish repressive forces were accused of participating in terrorist activities in North Syria and were detained. On August 2, 2017, they were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months unconditionally for being a member of the YPG / YPJ Kurdish Defense Forces (they are particularly fighting against the forces of the Islamic State). ---- Margaret was already two times in Rojava, she said in her words, she joined the defense forces and the area fell in love with her cultural and political uniqueness. This time she and Mirek were on their way to Rojava, where they planned to build a field hospital for both fighters and civilians, launch it and eventually help with defenses, she said. Together, they made a major campaign ahead of the trip, in which they wanted to get the necessary material and equipment, while not afraid to make lectures on life, struggle and revolution in the region. These public activities were most likely raised by the interest of Turkish agents.

Markéta said in an interview that she feels with people who deploy life against evil, that she would like to help Rojava with everything she needs, and that she realizes that she has more opportunities to join and help as a European. A little after her, but with them, as she mentioned.

Often we learn that Mirek and Markéta are not terrorists but innocent victims. We fully understand and respect this reaction of their loved ones and friends, but we do not think it is a strategy that is good for us, nor do we dare to say that both imprisonments have agreed with such rhetoric. We do not want to waste energy by endlessly repeating the claim that they are not terrorists. Not because we think the opposite, but because of our historical and own experience, we know that the very term terrorism is a totally nonsensical invention of repressive components that can hide anyone who dislikes one or the other government. In the Czech Republic, they are called anarchists, radical Islamists in Western Europe, and in Turkey those who fight against them.

Markéta and Mirek have chosen to make a courageous move and unfortunately have fallen into captivity by the Turkish state, who for decades is the hardest oppressor of the Kurdish people, and of course he perceives both activists as their enemies.

Now they are both in a Turkish prison. If you feel solidarity with them and want to support them, do not hesitate first and send them a letter to the following addresses.

(Letters must be written in English what to write and write, you will find in the "How to write letters" manual )

At mirekamarketa.cz you can find out about the legal campaign, the possibilities of financial support of legal aid, and there you will find a lot of other information and materials.

Remember that solidarity does not end in direct help by prisoners, but by continuing their link - solidarity actions. It is not necessary to portray them as humanitarian and non-violent activists. Their case can help us to think whether it is a mistake to not genocide, mass evictions, rape, tyranny and oppression, whether under the rule of states or of fundamental or fascist groups, by all means. Just look around and listen to your heart.

Anarchist black cross, summer 2017

"I do not think my goal should be 60 or 70 years, I want to do something good. I'm not afraid. "
