Report from G.James WORMS, GERMANY Friday, April 16, 1999
Title: "Water instead of Bombs"
At a program in Worms, Germany, called "War in Yugoslavian -- a Political
Dilemma, not just for the Greens", Darnell Summers, a Vietnam Veteran and
member of the "STOP THE WAR BRIGADE" threw water into the face of Christian
Sterzing, Green Party member of the German Parliament and the speaker for the
Defense Committee of the Green Fraction. (see picture--anhang). Mr. Summers
was in the middle of a speech denouncing Mr. Sterzing and the Green Party for
their support of the war in Yugoslavia when he suddenly threw water into the
face of Sterzing, lecturing him about how he does not know anything about
war. When some of the Greens present protested saying, "No violence!",
Summers then turned around and loudly said, "Violence! Your party is
supporting the destruction and the nuclear contamination of a whole country.
You support bombs! I say, 'Water instead of Bombs'."
The program had been sponsered by the Green Party of Worms, due to the fact
that about half of the party members in the area were against the war and
wanted the local Green membership to pass a resolution demanding the
"Buendnis 90"/Green members of the national government and parliament "to do
their utmost to end the NATO attacks against Yugoslavia immediately." The
resolution was voted down, 8 to 7 by the members present.
