The Long Island Chapter of the Industrial Workers of the World is
organizing students at the New School for Social Research (where 3 of
our members attend) and we are calling for outside solidarity from class
conscious working people for our campaign.

70 Part-time Jazz Musicians who are represented by Musicians Local 802,
have been negotiating a contract with management for 6 months. They are
struggling for Health Benefits, a decent Pension and a Living Wage. The
New School prides itself in its 'progressive' standing but stalls in
negotiations! The IWW is flyering the students to inform them of the
situation and will hold the university to its word. Below is a flyer
with more information on the situation: we are asking for concerned
individuals to write to the President of the New School and inform him
that the community will also hold the school accountable.

These professors must be given the respect and dignity that they
deserve!

AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!

in solidarity,

Kevin

Flyer: Justice for New School Jazz Professors

-Did you know that the part-time faculty at the Jazz and
Contemporary Music Program voted to unionize 9 months ago ?

The professors themselves voted for union representation (Musicians
Local
 802) and have been negotiating with management for 6 long months for
their first contract! This information was never released to the
students, and
neither was the fact that the New School has not yet accepted this fair

and just contract. There are 70 part-time Jazz instructors struggling
for
Health Care Benefits, a decent Pension, and a LIVING WAGE! All
workers deserve these necessities, but the New School with its stated
‘Progressive’ policies MUST give their employees these basic human
rights.

 - What is your $9,500 a semester tuition going to?

The fancy court yard the school just built is a slap in the face to all
professors
of the New School who are struggling to make ends meet. This misuse
of funds is detrimental to our education. Our professors must not be
abused by the institution we attend!

 - All New School students must stand up and force the
 management to negotiate fairly!
This is our University, we must have a say on how it is run! The IWW
is
calling on all students to send letters, email’s, fax’s and calls of
disgust to
President Fanton. To get involved with this campaign contact the IWW.
 In Solidarity,
Kevin Van Meter, Chris Casamassima, Liz Young IWW Organizers and
Students at Eugene Lang.
