RE: APPEAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT COPS' CANADIAN SPIN-DOCTOR

In recent months the neo-Nazi National Front (NF) have staged two marches
in Dover, Kent against Roma (Gypsy) asylum-seekers from Slovakia and the
Czech Republic. In November 1997 anti-fascists stopped the NF in their
tracks and forced them to abandon their march, despite the deployment by
Kent police of two helicopters and 140 officers with riot gear and dogs. In
February 1998 the police used thirty van-loads of officers, again with riot
gear and dogs, to force the NF march through an anti-fascist demonstration
that outnumbered the fascists by five to one. On both occasions the police
carried out blanket stop-and-search operations, gathering up anti-fascists'
personal details and video-filming their faces. A total of 30 anti-fascists
were arrested on the two demonstrations.

The NF are threatening to keep on marching in Dover; and Kent police are
promising to do whatever it takes to keep getting them through (they've
already spent around £80,000, roughly £1,000 per fascist per march).

To justify their policy, Kent police have mounted an aggressive
public-relations campaign fronted by their spokesman, a slick Canadian
spin-doctor named Mark Pugash. Following the November demonstration he told
a local radio station that the police were studying their video-tape of
anti-fascists and threatened that "some people will be getting an early
morning call". During the February demonstration Pugash wandered among the
anti-fascists, nonchalantly chewing gum and relaying information over his
mobile phone; an anti-fascist who verbally challenged him was targeted by a
police "snatch squad" and has been charged with assault. In a recent press
interview Pugash said that he was carefully "monitoring" our website and
had noted the e-mail address of one of our supporters at Kent University
(information which had not actually been posted on our website).

He's snooping on us, so we're snooping on him. WE ARE APPEALING TO CANADIAN
ANTI-FASCISTS TO PASS ON ANY INFORMATION THEY CAN FIND ABOUT MARK PUGASH.
