Anarcist Nicos Maziotis, 27, arrested early on Tusday morning, 01/13/1997, is the only person in custody of those arrested the same day. (23 years of age anarchist, Athanasios Karamousketas, one of the 15 individuals arrested immediately after Maziotis arrest, is sent in Military Police, since he was found a deserter!).
Nicos was arrested as suspect for participating in armed political group ("terrorist") and commited the bombing at the entrance of Ministry of Development, in Athens, on the 6th of December, 1997. Police claims that his finger-print is located on that bomb apparatus.
Nicos is a very well known person in the country. He is the first man in Greece of declaring Overall Conscious Objection and has refused any armed on unarmed service to the Greek State, and he still does. He was then arrested and released after one of the most hardcore hunger strikes ever in Greece, in 1990.
Tomorrow morning (Greek time) will be presented to the prosecutor to plead.
Although after his arrest the Minister of Public Order, Yiorgos Romeos, displayed temperate optimism, the climate in the Ministry and Police Headequarters was quite hot, since one of the most extreme desires of the Greek Police is to make any arrest of any person suspect for participating in any armed political group. This unfulfilled desire lasts for 23 years.
But more than 48 hours after Nicos' arrest this climate seems to flip, since (and according to police officials statements) the material found in Maziotis' residents in which his arrest took place, do not introduce evidence for participation in any of the major Greek armed political groups, or in any of the so-called "second generation terrorist groups".
