Chiapas95 was created in late 1995 as a filter to reduce the huge flow of
information and chit-chat/debate over the situation in Chiapas and Mexico
more generally to a manageable amount. The moderators of the Chiapas95
lists subscribe to just about every relevant list containing information
on Mexico, including those of Native Americans and European solidarity
groups. We try to sift the wheat from the chaff and pass on only what we
judge to be useful for activists.

In the wake of considerable demand, amidst an unusually heavy flow of
traffic about the deadly situation in chiapas, Accion Zapatista of Austin
has created a new list for English-only readers. Three lists are now
available:

1. Chiapas95 which carries all messages regardless of language and thus
provides the fullest coverage of information about the struggle for
democracy in chiapas and elsewhere in Mexico and related events around the
world.

2. Chiapas95-lite which carries only messages concerning Chiapas, narrowly
construed, and thus less information. It does, however, carry messages in
all languages.

3. Chiapas95-English which, henceforth, will carry only messages in
English and only those directly related to Chiapas, and thus will carry
the smallest amont of information.

Because the largest number of our subscribers are English speaking, we
will continue to provide subject lines in English of postings in other
languages on Chiapas95 and Chiapas95-lite so that these subscribers will
at least have a glimmering of what they are missing, especially in
Spanish, with the hopes that they will work on their language skills and
learn to read that which is now indecipherable.

You can sign up for any one of these lists by sending the appropriate one
of the following commands in the body of the text while leaving the
subject line blank:
