ZAPATISTAS ON THE STREETS OF DUBLIN

Launching a week of protests in Dublin , Mark Connolly of the Irish
Mexico Group said: "The Mexican government is using a dual strategy of
paramilitary death squads and harassment by federal troops to push
Chiapas into fullscale civil war. This can only be prevented by
immediate pressure all around the world. We demand that the death squads
be disbanded and federal troops withdrawn from indigenous areas. The
Mexican government must honour the San Andres peace agreements made with
the EZLN. We can and we must stop this war."

SATURDAY 10.1.98 The Irish Mexico Group will have an information table
at the Bank of Ireland on College Green from 2pm to 4pm, with up to the
minute information on government attacks on Zapatista communities in
Chiapas and massacre of 45 people by paramilitaries. Artist Deirdre
Horgan, who appeared in the documentary 'Chiapas' shown on TnaG on
1.1.98, invites members of the public to help her complete a large
canvas depicting the grief of the Zapatista communities. Letters of
protest will be available.

MONDAY 12.1.98 International day of protest against aggression in
Chiapas: the Irish Mexico Group will hold a rally outside the European
Parliament offices in Molesworth St. at 1pm. Artist Deirdre Horgan, who
appeared in the documentary 'Chiapas' shown on TnaG on 1.1.98,will
present a large canvas depicting the grief of the Zapatista communities.
Up to the minute information and letters of protest will be available.

WEDNESDAY 14.1.98 Public meeting about the crisis in Chiapas at 7:30pm
in the Irish Film Centre, Eustace St, Dublin 2. The Irish Mexico Group
will present a slideshow and members recently returned from Chiapas will
speak on the current  situation . Up to the minute information and
letters of protest will be available.
