(en) France, Union Communiste Libertaire - UCL press release: The "hate" law strengthened and adopted in the name of anti-terrorism (fr, it, pt)[machine translation]

Date Mon, 18 May 2020 10:14:09 +0300

On May 13, 2020, the National Assembly finally adopted the Hatred Law, also known as the Avia Law, named after its rapporteur, the MP LREM Laetitia Avia. It is obvious that this law will join the arsenal of anti-terrorist laws which sooner or later are used to muzzle political opposition and social movements. ---- We will not go back to the recent revelations from Mediapart concerning the specifically hateful behaviors of Laetitia Avia [1]. We will not return to how, once again, the fight against "terrorism" is used as a pretext for the endless decline of our rights and freedoms. It is obvious that this law will join the arsenal of anti-terrorist laws which sooner or later are used to muzzle political opposition and social movements. ---- We will only recall what this law allows very concretely, by quoting the press release from La Quadrature du Net [2]:

"It requires that all websites (not just giant platforms) censor content reported by the police as" terrorism "in one hour (not twenty-four hours) (without this qualification being given by a judge , but by the police alone).

If the site does not censor the content (for example because the report is sent on a weekend or overnight), the police can demand that it be blocked everywhere in France by Internet service providers (Orange, SFR, etc.)."

Once again, the French state is illustrated by its sad desire to transform itself into a police state. This unfortunately does not surprise us and only renews our determination to fight this State and its developments by all means.
