(en) [Spain] "Red Black Coordination" manifesto for the First of May By ANA (pt) [machine translation]

Date Mon, 4 May 2020 08:41:29 +0300

Manifesto for the First of May of "Red Black Coordination", of which CGT is part of the coordinating team. ---- SAC (Sweden), CNT-F (France), USI (Italy), ??? (Greece), IP (Poland), SO and CGT (Spain) ---- For the celebration of May 1, 2020, we, the organizations that are part of the "Red Black Coordination", will not "confine" our claims. Beyond the health crisis caused by the coronavirus, we will raise our voices and continue to denounce the avarice of capital, which continues to devour the wealth generated by the working class, as well as the lives and health of male and female workers. ---- It is well known that, on Labor Day, the figure of those known as the Chicago martyrs is celebrated, anarcho-syndicalists who were executed in the United States.

They participated in the days of struggle to achieve the 8-hour workday, which originated in the strike of May 1, 1886, and which reached a climax four days later, on May 4, in the Haymarket uprising. Since then, the 1st of May is celebrated as a day of struggle, a day to claim the rights of the working class.

This year, however, this day of struggle must go beyond traditional demands, as we must remember how the crisis of COVID-19 is affecting those who live on the outskirts of our societies, those with temporary jobs, those and delivery women (riders), homeless people, migrants and refugees, prisoners, dependents, elderly people, etc.

Before government measures, adopted by the same people as always, mutual support and solidarity - values that defined anarcho-syndicalism - must prevail, now more than ever, among working people and neighborhoods, as well as in any type of social relationship. .

We must also bear in mind the ideal of self-management in production centers.

We must remain alert to the closure of companies and the destruction of jobs that will be caused by this pandemic. That workers take control of workplaces and their management could be a solution to this problem.

The "Red Black Coordination" remains united by the demands that we traditionally associate to this day, those that, although they are not new, should not be forgotten, and it is that, in face of this pandemic, the problems of the working class have, more than never an necessarily international dimension:

* A universal and public health system

* Basic income or a ban on dismissals and maintenance of wages

* Economic aid to dependent, elderly and vulnerable people

* Decent pensions

* End of repression and defense of the right to strike

* Refusal of labor reforms that precarize working conditions

* Real measures to fight the machismo prevailing in our societies

When confinements are over, we will go on strike and take the streets again to demand that companies develop the necessary measures to preserve the health of their workers and to prevent accidents at work. We will also demand that repressive and liberty laws are repealed and that we have the necessary assumptions to guarantee quality public services for all, including migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

Long live the 1st of May! Long live the working class!
