(en) [Chile] Santiago: "This is the moment for the fight for dignity" By ANA (pt) [machine translation]

Date Thu, 24 Oct 2019 09:21:21 +0300

Announcement received at dawn on October 21, 2019 ---- Hello, how are you? ---- First of all I would like to clarify that I make this audio for communication purposes, with the intention of spreading what is happening in the territory in which I live, the territory dominated by the State of Chile, specifically the capital. ---- In recent days the state of Chile has shown its real face, which it really is, putting all the police and military in the street to suppress the protests and mobilizations that are already being experienced at the national level. ---- People are dying, they are murdering people, they are torturing and raping women, they are kidnapping people. So far we have worked with an undetermined number of deceased persons, 8 officially, but we know that they are much more, we know that there are a lot of people seriously injured by police and military shots.

To give you a brief background perhaps you could leave by saying that around two weeks ago massive protests began due to the drop that overflowed the glass, this glass loaded with historical demands in this place. Demands related to health, education, the transportation system, the supply system, typical of a cruel neoliberal system implanted in the dictatorship.

The drop that overflows the glass is increased passage, the increase of basic services, electricity in particular, and begin with the crowds making catracaços[evasiones , the Spanish term of the region]by high school students in the subway stations, mainly in the city center. Over time, these turnstiles begin to encompass people from all sections of the population, people of all ages found themselves ratcheting up and taking the Santiago subway stations under their control, allowing all who took the subway at that time to enter without delay. to pay, which over the days led to the presence of police special forces[carabineros, one of the police arms there]at the stations, guarding and trying to suppress this demonstration. They did not succeed, and people continued with the turnstiles and occupying the seasons, and in particular on Friday 18 October, the protest sharpens and radicalizes and goes out into the street, addressing the eternal symbols of the Capital: the supermarkets, the banks, pharmacies, public transport buses and the destruction of subway stations. About 45 Santiago subway stations are destroyed, 20 of them burned down, mainly in the outskirts, in the poblaciones [peripheral neighborhoods where people on the shores of Chilean neoliberal capitalism live].

On Saturday, 19 October, the curfew, the State of Siege, is decreed at night from 10 pm until 7 am. Before that, on Friday, a state of emergency was declared, the military was already on the streets, the actions did not stop. People kept going out on the streets, went on barricading, it's uncontrollable to this day. On Saturday the curfew was decreed, as he said, and in the evening they followed the actions, people continued to take to the streets, the military began to enter the poblaciones, not only of Santiago, by now there are 7 cities that are in State of Emergency, I believe 3 of them in State of Siege too, with curfew.

The police and the military are firing, repressing and killing anyone who crosses them, there are many videos on social networks of torture, detention, kidnapping, reports of rapes, being run over, there is a great crackdown on historically organized poblaciones and resisted the dictatorship, and police invasions are taking place in these sectors, a political persecution that we know will not be contained, and that the government is trying to direct.

Fascist and right-wing President Sebastián Piñera a few hours ago during the press conference stated that we are at war, that there is an internal enemy behind all these organizations. There are attempts to point to already organized political organizations, we know that this is a vile montage, that this is a vile lie, people are organizing themselves without leaders or leaders, horizontally and in solidarity.

They are threatening to cut off water and light, they are putting fear, they are intimidating people. The presence of the military on the street plays the same role, sweeping stations, sweeping avenues where people gather to protest.

We do not know how this will go, we do not know how the murders and disappearances will follow. This is not something new for this territory, 40 years ago the panorama was no different, we started differently, but we do not know how it will be completed now.

There is a call open to agitation, to gestures of solidarity to this place in the different sectors of the planet, for solidarity to expand beyond writing and words.

This is the moment of struggle for dignity, the discontent is breathing, it is uncontrollable, the anger and expression of anger has taken to the streets of this city and the country.

A hug, I hope this serves and contributes to everything that is happening in this place.
