(en) Czech, AFED: Memories of anarchist - Anarchist Federation publishing house has published a new book. [machine translation]

Date Wed, 9 Oct 2019 12:14:12 +0300

In October 2019, the book Memories of anarchist was published by Anna Garsjov. She lived in 1902-1994, experienced the Tsar, both revolutions of 1917, the Bolshevik era and the collapse of the Soviet Union. As an anarchist, she went through prison and exile. She worked as a nurse, but also as an engraver in a map printer. In the 1960s she met Alexander Solzhenitsyn and helped him to process and hide materials for the GULAG Archipelago . ---- "For the curious reader and historian, the most interesting are not the memories of important figures of the political or social scene whose attention necessarily attracts the events of their professional life, but the memories of people little known or totally unknown. track people and events around you. It is in their notes, diaries and memories that the elapsed time will be revealed in every detail, full of little things, but also the thoughts and hopes of the people living at that time. Such rare testimonies include the memories of Anna Garasjova, thanks to which Russian life in the last twentieth century can be seen in a new light, "says its editor in the introduction to the book.

And in the afterword to the Czech edition, we read, among other things, "Who would be tired of reading memoirs, say, the noble French bourgeois from the end of the last century, if we had Anna Garasjov's book, the living book, of flesh and blood of the nation? It is unbelievable how many known and unknown details have captured the memory of this unique witness of Russian history over the decades! Besides the unusual and somewhat bizarre fate described Anna Garasjovová cruelty peasant rebellion against landowners and the Bolsheviks, the slaughter of so-called "hostages", forced displacement and death of thousands of Kazakhs, fled the communist leadership to Hitler from Moscow ... Numerous facts of memories Garasjovové took to his monumental The Gulag ArchipelagoAlexander Solzhenitsyn, who had been friends with her since the 1960s. We can safely say that without the testimony of this modest old woman from Ryazan, Solzhenitsyn's indictment of the Stalinist system would have never been so appalling and convincing.

Finally, the Czech reader is lucky enough to get to know one - if not the main - of Solzhenitsyn's sources. Anna Garasjov's memories - besides the documentary prose of Trotsky, Gide, Alyachnovich, Weil, Henijush, Solomon - are undoubtedly one of the most impressive writings about Soviet state capitalism and its crimes. It is all the more frightening to realize that elements of the then established police state, including the "presumption of guilt" for its enemies, still survive in Russia and other post-Soviet countries. And so it is no coincidence that the process constructed by the FSB with the Anarchist Pension-Petrograd Network of 2019 so much resembles the 1925 Ryazan-Petrograd case of the Garassian sisters. "
