(en) Canada, ucl-saguenay, Collectif Emma Goldman -[Chicoutimi]Solidarity neighborhood: park without borders (fr, it, pt)[machine translation]

Sunday, September 22, members of the Emma Goldman collective held a table in the park at
the corner of Price and Sainte-Anne Streets (next to the late 21 Price) in downtown
Chicoutimi. On the menu: free coffee distribution, meeting with local people and small
local cleaning. Despite the rain, many people came to our table to discuss their reality
in the neighborhood and their vision of their living environment. We made our event in
this park since the adjacent land (the 21 Price) is vacant and for sale. So we think it
would be good to cut down the fence between the vacant lot and the park to make it bigger.
During our discussions, a person gave the idea of a basketball court and area to play
petanque. Indeed, Some people also mentioned seeing a change since Ubisoft's arrival in
the neighborhood. Without saying a word, these people talked about gentrification. That's
the analysis they're taking out of the situation right now in downtown. Upmarket
restaurants, young professionals, luxury apartment buildings, office towers, etc.
Residents and residents of the neighborhood are very aware of all these transformations
and many are worried about what can happen in the years to come. Because we know very well
the violence of gentrification. Increased police crackdown to "secure" merchants and
newcomers, eviction of small traders to make room for new real estate or commercial
projects, eviction or exile of the most disadvantaged people due to an increase in housing
prices or a shortage of affordable apartments, lack of convenience stores, etc. In the
face of all these uncertainties and the attacks on the underprivileged people who live in
the city center (and in this, the members of the collective are among the number), we
continue to organize, to mobilize to set up the living environment that we desire. That's
why we are organizing another event on October 5 at 6 pm for a screening of a film on the
walls of the former Chicoutimi prison located on Price Street. By popular demand, free
spaghetti and more! In the face of all these uncertainties and the attacks on the
underprivileged people who live in the city center (and in this, the members of the
