(en) France, Alternative Libertaire AL Octobre - The PMA for all: it left for a ride? (fr, it, pt) [machine translation]

Date Tue, 24 Oct 2017 10:36:40 +0300

The announcement by the government of the opening of the PMA in 2018 to couples of two women and single women has already led to the media space being grabbed by the Manif pour tous reacs. ---- Marlene Schiappa, Secretary of State for Equality between Women and Men, announced on September 12 that the government would open the PMA in 2018 to couples of two women as well as to single women. Extending this right beyond the heterosexual couple was a promise of Macron's campaign. Unfortunately, in 2012-2013, when Holland and her government had timidly opened the marriage to all couples, all the conservative and homophobic voices of the country had united under the banner of the Manif pour tous, which had reached a certain capacity to weigh in the public debate. Already, the government had promised medically assisted procreation (PMA) to lesbian couples, but had shrunk from the aggressive lobbying of the Manif for All. The debate had opened a Pandora's box, and homophobes believed they were allowed to pour their hatred into public space. How could it have been otherwise? The debate had dragged on, the government had postponed consideration of the law and many statements " appeasement " that actually served to strengthen the reactionary [1].

Conservatives

A similar scenario emerges with Schiappa's announcement. Indeed, as soon as the information began to turn, the Manif for all and his buddies took the media space to the sound of arguments sometimes homophobic, sometimes supposedly protectors of women (actually paternalistic). The breach is open.

Macron considers that the way in which debates on marriage for all have been conducted is one of the " fundamental mistakes " of the previous quinquennium and wishes to " speak and share disagreements " so as not to " humiliate " the opponents. But who is humiliated ? Who is verbally and physically assaulted in the street ? Who is fired from home or adolescent because his parents discovered his homosexuality ? Who is discriminated against in hiring because of his sexual orientation ? The lesbian, gay, bi. When it comes to breaking the Labor Code, Macron wants to legislate quickly but when it is for equal rights, time is rather slow and free speech for all hatreds and intolerances.

There is no doubt that Macron wishes to grant the graces of lesbian, gay, bi, trans (LGBT) people while sparing the Conservatives. The Manif for all said to hold him in horror, having campaigned for Fillon during the presidential campaign, but they know that they have powerful relays within the government. Ministers are close to the Manif for all (Darmanin and Lemoyne for example).

Hindering social progress

Schiappa has already backpedaled, announcing that 2018 would be only the year when a schedule would be set, while Collomb considers the topic " non-priority ". The community has therefore had to suffer a new wave of insults from Manif for all to ... nothing ! Macron will not give any rights for free, and this episode is only a foretaste of the balance of power that awaits LGBT activists. As always, it is in the street that new rights will be gained !
