(en) Anarkismo.net: Chile, Solidaridad #24 - There is a whole institutional framework that has been built to control the bodies of women (ca, pt) [machine translation]

Date Sun, 21 Sep 2014 20:50:14 +0300

For a long time, abortion was considered one of the untouchable issues in this country. Recientementese heard the case of a teenager who, due to injuries caused by an abortion, attended the Tisné Luis Hospital and was denounced by the doctor who attended. No objections to the code of medical ethics, we see once again not the health and dignity of women took shelter in breach basic rights of patients. This case is in addition to hundreds of those we have witnessed in our country where there is no legislation to safeguard women in these situations, let alone provisions guaranteeing his bodily and reproductive autonomy. This leads to the question: can we expect any change from the government of Bachelet? ---- Recently announced that for Muches can be considered a breakthrough: the decriminalization of abortion in cases of rape, danger to life of the mother and the fetus unviable. However, we believe that there is much to celebrate, as the fight for free abortion should be a slogan that should not lose strength by these reforms aimed at defusing the debate that is taking more and more power, a situation that was demonstrated last year after taking the Cathedral of Santiago. The post-dictatorial governments have a long history of reforms patch, as a compromise with the most reactionary sectors only demobilize and divide the forces struggling.

The Chilean State is leaving the eaves of danger to thousands of women who must resort to unsafe and risky to exercise on their bodies the right to terminate their unwanted pregnancies methods. Before this the answer seems obvious, first because Bachelet has not addressed the issue of abortion with depth and seriousness that is needed, much less understood the urgency is required; and secondly because behind it there is a whole institutional framework that supports and has been built to control the bodies of women. As a feminist it seems clear that this medical institutions reaches violating their own codes to maintain a moral that has nothing to do with protecting the health of patients, but, on the contrary, prosecuted, reveals and exposes.

It is in cases like these where once again comes to light how this moral, protected by the state apparatus, is built at the expense of women. The idea of women as people "who provide the body" as vessels for patriarchy remains intact. This is not surprising, and is therefore is that today we do a deeper question regarding the abortion. While we demand the decriminalization of abortion and freedom over our bodies, also criticize the system and its institutions in their entirety, because for the operation of patriarchy the subjection of women is needed and also those who do not conform to heterosexist norm: tails, lesbian, trans and intersex.

We take this case (and all that happen every day without our knowledge) as part of the struggles of the feminist movement and hence assume as our accepting the task of not silence our positions and from that premise to build a distinct moral hegemonic. We understand that to achieve this goal we must consider as the real emancipation linchpin of the whole society.

The left as a whole must be involved and leave sexist practices in all areas and all the ways that are exercised. That is why we believe that this flag must fight not only lift the feminists, but to assume that this is the task of Todes who believe in freedom as a core value and the liberation of society as a goal. Our commitment is to consider as important as the capitalist patriarchy and colonialism. Todes extend the invitation to those who see in the patriarchal and hierarchical system a repressor and an impediment to the progress of the various struggles because they only oprimides in full release can be born.
