(en) Demonstration against war in Ukraine in Helsinki + No to Russian attack, not to the Ukrainian oligarchs (ru) [machine translation]

Date Fri, 12 Sep 2014 09:40:52 +0300

YYA (Ystävyys, Yhteistoiminta ja Avunanto -network) organized 8.9.2014 a demonstration opposing the war in Ukraine. The demonstration opposed Russia's invasion in Ukraine, the war in Ukraine and demanded end to the war crimes. ---- Out of many human rights violations in the war, the demonstration emphasized the kidnappings of movie director Oleg Sentsov and antifascist Alexander Koltšenko, who were taken to Russia. The demonstrarion didn't support any army or state and opposed every kind of nationalism. About 70 people showed their solidarity by attending the demonstration. ---- The demonstration walked through Helsinki city centre and ended by the Russian embassy. ”No war in Ukraine, no war anywhere”, ”End the war in Ukraine, free the Crimean prisoners”, ”No to war, no to nationalism” and other slogans were shouted out loud on the way and by the embassy. Most of the bystanders showed their solidarity and support to the demonstrations' antinationalist message.

The ending of the demonstration was powerfull. Last time YYA's
demonstration ended by the Russian embassy, the embassy staff was
eagerly taking pictures of the demonstration behind the iron fence. This
time it was whole another story. Just as Putin was afraid a week ago in
Minsk and didn't touch the traditional Russian greeting, bread and salt,
so was the embassy standing silent and still beneath the fences, guarded
by twenty Finnish police. It seems the whole embassy is living in fear
and uncertainty.

No Russian attack, not the Ukrainian oligarchs

Ukraine to wage war. The dividing line is not "good against evil", but the situation is more complex. During the summer and early autumn, Russia is involved in the increasingly active role in Ukraine's civil war.

Kiev government and supporting it believes that started last year Euromaidan-movement is a genuine popular movement, and the East-Ukrainian-Russian movements in the Russian marionette.

Russia and its supporters who think that Euromaidan is sponsored by the conspiracy of the western world, while the Russian-minded movement is a genuine popular movement.

Kiev government support who think that Euromaidan-movement represented the democratic revolution, the Russian base who believe that the coup.

The truth is somewhere in between. Both Euromaidanin that the Russian-minded rear is a large popular movement. Both the emergence of popular movements is, however, influenced by false propaganda. Western propaganda crafted to be too high expectations of Ukraine's possible accession to the EU. Russian crafted propaganda is worth while eastern Ukraine generally prevailing fear that the Ukrainian nationalists want the Second World War massacres return.

Euromaidan-Maneuvers had some direct action, direct democracy, and social revolution features. Some decisions were made at general meetings, and sometimes politicians were forced to retreat troops will face. The demands of the oligarchs. Basically, the movement was, however, the existing political institutions, control, and these in Kiev in February, following a coup carried out by almost all the protesters took to the square to their homes. Opportunity to make real changes in society was lost. The power was transferred from one clan to the other oligarchs.

A large part of Ukraine's Russian-speaking people consider themselves as Russians, wants stronger ties with Russia and the West wants to prevent integration. This movement has been in existence for the entire period of Ukraine's independence, and it is not only the Kremlin's manipulation. Ukrainian violence did not start from the east but from Kiev, and it is possible that the violence would spread to the east, even without Russia's assistance. It is clear, however, that violence would have picked up this bad without Russia's participation, and that is why Putin is currently the worst problem in Ukraine.
That is why we are opposed to at the moment, above all, the Russian invasion. withdrawal of Russian troops is not yet a solution to the conflict, but it requires much more.

First of all Ukrainian ethnic interests is recognized in Ukrainian politics. Western integration does not mean the isolation of Russia, and the EU countries have the right to continue the economic reforms required to reduce the disproportionately poor people to drive. Secondly, Russia must stop meddling in Ukraine issues. Crimean situation is to find a solution that satisfies equally to all ethnic groups, including the Crimean Tatars. The mere will of the majority is not enough, in the case of the Soviet Union-term persecution suffered the fate of a minority group.

Ukraine's quintessential problem is capitalism, which oligarkkinen form has led to a catastrophic redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich. Both Euromaidan that the Russian-minded movements have attacked the rhetoric against the oligarchs, but in the end neither of which is addressed by the oligarchs position in any way. Ukraine is again a good example of the fact that both the Ukraine as pro-Russian nationalism, or any form of nationalism in general can not solve the economic inequality problems.

The war has stopped the protests in western Ukraine, Ukrainian and Eastern disgruntled are now either under the earth, prison, exile or executed. War has come to an end, but the peace also requires the Ukraine (and global) economic system a thorough overhaul.
NATO and the EU are not the solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Ukraine's problem is capitalism.
The end of the Russian attack, not to any form of nationalism!
End the war, not the power of the oligarchs!

There is a war between nations, no peace between classes!
