(en) France, Alternative Libertaire AL #233 - Fight against breakage pensions: Not really led, not won (fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Sun, 12 Jan 2014 11:28:30 +0200

National mobilization against the government's bill on pensions looks like a very bad movie. But the scenario was written shortly after the day of strikes and demonstrations on September 10. Responsibility of trade unions is great in this fiasco. But this failure is ours, activists involved in social struggle. ---- Everything had started relatively well. Early July, CGT, FO, United, FSU announced a national day of strikes and demonstrations against the pension reform for September 10. Certainly, the bargaining unit was incomplete, but the defection of the organizations supporting the government against Reformation was neither a surprise nor a handicap to oppose it. Whichever seemed to be in the optimal timing: two months to prepare a strong action, close enough to the beginning of September to allow to build a following before parliamentary debate.

Alas! From that time, mistakes were made, of deliberately losing strategies began to unfold. Very few teams activists have used the two summer months to engage in business against the bill. This applies equally to union collective in which we, militant and revolutionary militants are present than others. Certainly, in July and August, there is the holidays, but outside of Education there is hardly any area where "one firm" during these two months. Moreover, when this bill as a new historical regression of social rights, it would make sense not to hide behind the summer holidays (important conquest, certainly), not to prepare and build the movement which we call in our leaflets and newspapers! Confederal union bureaucracy of the CGT and FO has accompanied this failure of activist work during the summer, limiting the production of materials for union teams in the field.

September 10 was not a failure but remained far from what the balance of forces required. Hundreds of thousands of people in the streets, walkouts in various professional sectors, both public and private: there was room to bounce. Meeting requests made by the Inter-Trade Union Solidarity remained unanswered, the FSU saying its agreement without making the same request, the CGT expressing support without taking any initiative that would have confirmed it there. Weeks passed, leaving the mobilization fall, negotiations between the government and some union organizations to continue, and the bill is set up so more inexorable.

No unitary framework

Because I had to deal with collective activists, letters to MPs and Senators were multiplied. As if they did not know what they were and they vote! The refusal of the CGT to organize a response to September 10, the inability Partners to build only the result, the absence of unitary framework effectively collecting union collective struggle, left the field open to FO to announce the end of September "his" day of action on October 15. The message was clear: it was an identity initiative, without any desire to build an inter-national movement. And be sure to stop there, FO chose the date as the last day of discussion of the bill in the National Assembly. Only missing the announcement ...

No other purpose than to not let the totally free way for FO and respond (very bad) to its most combative teams, CGT announced a few days a week of action from October 7 to 11! That's how we ended up with 200 people from the call UL CGT Nord-Pas-de-Calais before the National Assembly on 7, 300 retirees CGT, FSU and Solidarity 8, and some departmental gatherings militants in the same inter-configuration, 10. 15 was hardly more successful: new rallies activists and Paris 900 meters from CGT event / Partners / FSU joining the national gathering of delegates FO. All representing some small thousands.

Strengthen, really
How could it be otherwise, given what happened, or more accurately did not happen for a month? You can always continue with a new symbolic day in mid-November at the Senate vote. But is it really necessary to want to make our defeat a symbol? Is it not more useful to take stock of the loss, to change our practices accordingly, prepare following the social confrontation? Responsibilities of devices, not just confederal, CGT, FSU is established. It is even consubstantial with their lives. The weak implementation of Solidarity (and CNT-N and CNT-f) to build an inter-national strike is also known. Therefore, there he was not lessons: make a priority of strengthening trade unions actually acting for a profound transformation of society, and even assuming claiming class confrontation? Rebuilding places not only debate but also of unitary construction between union collective struggles that these are the CGT, to Solidarity, the FSU, the CNT-SO, the CNT-f or elsewhere?

Illusions electoral
These organizational aspects are important, but they can not be treated out of real-life Workers. For many, the only victories that seem possible today are professional or local. Start again from there! These struggles are not revolutionary in themselves, they can become when they are winning and we are acting for their necessary coordination. The case of pensions is not isolated from other battles fought by the employers, who pursues social war. The government is there to serve. The electoral illusions must constantly be denounced: locked into this logic outside rescuer to our class and our social struggles, contributes today to increase the weight of the National Front.

Resume the offensive! If the radical is one way to end this capitalist society, what is the most radical today? Repeat us "general strike! "Without analyzing the status of forces or assume that we lost on pensions, get the balance and the consequences?
