On September 10th over 600 people met in Dufferin Grove Park in an inspiring meeting to formulate and put forth a ‘Toronto Declaration’ to stop Ford’s proposed $774 million in cuts to city services. Since that time, close to 2000 people have ratified this declaration and the numbers are growing by the day! (See and sign here: http://facebook.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=b471a97a3a20e7a863a1f1726&id=8cc4696a8d&e=273f784da1). ---- On this historic day in Dufferin Grove, Torontonians also talked about further action plans to stop Ford’s cuts and take our city back. Below is information about what actions we will be taking over the coming weeks as Ford’s proposed cuts are first brought to the Executive Board on September 19th and then to City Council for the vote on September 26th and 27th.

Thursday, September 22nd: Crisis Averted – Parents to open affordable
daycare in Mayor Ford’s office!
9:30am
Nathan Phillips Square (near the doors to city hall)

We’re confident Rob Ford isn’t going to turn his back on 20 000 kids
waiting for daycare subsidies and won’t mind donating his office space
for an interim daycare while he’s hard at work ensuring our children
all have access to safe, affordable childcare spaces.

Parents! Kids! Supporters! Join us for snack and circle time with your
toys and noisiest noise-makers

Ford’s City government is looking to slash daycare funding at the end
of September. We are facing potential cuts of 2000 desperately needed
subsidies, privatization of city-run daycares, an end to quality
control inspections, slashing of family programs and cuts to wage and
rent subsidies for existing daycare facilities.

Help us protect our children’s right to safe, affordable childcare

Rob Ford Plans Cuts – We will Stop Him!
September 26th and 27th Plan of Action
Location: Toronto City Hall

Monday, September 26th
5:30pm: Rally for Toronto: Save City Services, Defend Good Jobs!
7:30pm: Takeover Nathan Phillips Square!
*Camp-out against the cuts – bring your tent and sleeping bag, bring
food, and bring supplies to share if you can!

Tuesday, September 27th
7:00am: Community Breakfast
8:00am: Rally and Action to STOP the CUTS!

On September 10th over 600 people met in Dufferin Grove Park to write
the ‘Toronto Declaration’. We also made plans to confront Ford as he
takes his cuts to the Executive Committee on Sept 19th and City
Council for the vote on Sept 26 and 27. Now is the time for action!

September 19: We will be taking the 'Toronto Declaration' to the
Executive Committee. This will be our last ultimatum to these
councillors to stop their attackson our communities.

On September 26th, we will be joining thousands of union and community
members for a major rally against Ford’s plans. Immediately after this
rally at approximately 7:30pm, we plan to take over Nathan Phillips
Square for an overnight mass camp-out. On the 27th, we will start with
a community breakfast, then get to work on taking back City Hall and
stopping the Ford cuts from being implemented!

Ford was elected on a false promise to protect services and cut
‘gravy’, but planned all along to attack workers and communities! The
cuts he has prepared, can only be countered by workers and communities
mobilizing together to stop him. Come to City Hall on the 26th and
27th and help us do just that.

GET INVOLVED: Join a neighborhood committee, join an action, get in touch!

Council votes, we need to build our power to keep our services open
and accessible through all the means at our disposal. Join
neighborhood committees
(http://www.torontostopthecuts.com/?page_id=114) or start your own, so
that in the years to come if any branch of government comes after
homes, our neigbours or our services, we can gather together to stop
them!
