(en) Serbia, Zrenjanin, zaf.anarhija.org: 4th Zrenjanin antifascist festival/1st Zrenjanin anarchist bookfair 30th September â 1st October 2011.

Date Thu, 08 Sep 2011 12:04:01 +0300

Cultural Center of Zrenjanin, Serbia ---- The fourth ZAF will be held on 30th of September and 1st of October 2011. in the Cultural Center of Zrenjanin. Encouraged by the positive experience in organizing last year's Balkan Anarchist Bookfair, we decided to organize an anarchist bookfair as a part of the festival this year as well. We hope that this will be an opportunity to consolidate old and establish new libertarian connections in the Balkans and beyond. ---- Anarchist bookfair will be held on the second day of the festival, on Saturday 1st of October. *** Friday, 30th September *** 14h Lunch ---- 16h Anarhija/blok 45 â a talk about publishing and anarchy Anarhija/blok 45 is a publishing initiative from Belgrade. It exists for nine years, and publishes books that are primarily focused on some of the key aspects of mass society: work, productionism, economy as blackmail, the ideology of progress, etc.

The specificity of this publishing initiative is that all published books
are free, which required developing of new ways of distribution and a
unique relationship with the readers.

About all of this, with special emphasis on the importance of publishing ,
the importance of what we call "theory" and about one vision of anarchy,
we will discuss with Aleksa Golijanin , translator and editor of
Anarhija/blok 45

18h The Radical Left in Germany - From Adorno to Antideutsch

The radical left movement in Germany has its origin in the neomarxist
critical theory of the Frankfurter schule and the antiauthoritarian
students movement of the late 1960s. In context of the cold war and a
(post)fascist elite in western Germany the radical left showed different
faces up to now: from the Baader-Meinhof-group and various small communist
sects, over the autonomous left and the squatter movement to the
bourgeoisie Green party and the contemporary antifa movement.
After the decline of the Soviet Union the radical left in Germany got into
a deep ideological crisis: the communist groups fell apart, autonom antifa
movement divided itself in pro-Israel, antinationalist,
Stalinist/antiimperialist and anarchist groups. The antiglobalisation
movement, started 1999. in Seattle, was the beginning of a new era for the
radical left.
The historical development and the contemporary tendencies and conflicts
inside the radical left in Germany will be the topic of our input at the
ZAF.

14h Nuclear Disaster in Fukushima - what don't we know?

On the 11thof March 2011. after the earthquake, strenght of 9 degrees
Mercalli scale hit northeastern coast of Japan, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear
power plant suffered catastrophic damage. The tsunami which soon after
that sealed the fate of the damaged nuclear power plant marked the
beginning of a new epoch on earth: life with incalculable consequences of
the greatest industrial disaster in human history.

However, hardly anything at all about this can be heard in the media. Why?
Why is there so much silence about the deadly consequences of the nuclear
emissions from Fukushima that some scientists believe are at least 72,000
times worse than Hiroshima and will result in one million cancer patients?
Why is the truth about nuclear energy suppressed and and why are
multimillion populations of Japan and North America exposed to deadly
risks?. How have we became hostages of the nuclear industry, and is there
a "safe level of radiation" at all? About all of that and much more we
will hear from Pop, editor of Kontrapunkt.

16h Jelena Ilka MarkoviÄ â Insribing into the Political History

Ilka MarkoviÄ was a Serbian socialist who in 1882. in the Cathedral Church
in Belgrade attempted to assassinate king Milan ObrenoviÄ. The Serbian
public was completely shocked by this act, especially by the fact that the
would be assassin was a woman. It was considered impossible that a woman
would dare to commit such an act by herself alone and it was expected that
the investigation will reveal that behind the conspiracy stood men who
manipulated Ilka. On the contrary, what was revealed was that the only
person besides Ilka involved was another woman, Lena KniÄanin. Ilka
herself stated that she was committed to this act because she wanted to
"liberate Serbia from a tyrant" and that the only regret she has is that
she missed, clearly indicating the political nature of this act, in
particular placing it in the then current context of "tyrannicide" and
"propaganda of the deed" . Ilka and Lena were both killed in retaliation
in prison.
However, the conservative Serbian historiography has, until recently,
spoken about this act with contempt, only as a crime out of passion. The
reason: Milan has ordered the murder of Ilkas husband, socialist Jevrem
MarkoviÄ a few years earlier.

Historian Vanda PeroviÄ will offer us a completely different view of life
and work of Ilka MarkoviÄ, revolutionary who shot at the heart of the
State and the patriarchal system.

Justseeds Artistsâ Cooperative is a decentralized network of 26 artists
committed to making print and design work that reflects a radical social,
environmental, and political stance. With members working from the U.S.,
Canada, and Mexico, Justseeds operates both as a unified collaboration of
similarly minded printmakers and as a loose collection of creative
individuals with unique viewpoints and working methods. We believe in the
transformative power of personal expression in concert with collective
action. To this end, we produce collective portfolios, contribute graphics
to grassroots struggles for social change, create collaborative
installations, wheatpaste on the streets, and promote each others work as
a worker-run cooperative. Justseeds members will present examples of
printmaking and graphics being used in activist campaigns.
