(en) Spain, Murcia, The Cuts Affect us @ll - Rock, Paper, Scissors (ca)

Date Tue, 18 Jan 2011 19:30:02 +0200

Rock, Paper, Scissors --- First, we at the CGT, believe it is necessary to congratulate the entire Murcia Region population for the bravery and courage that they have shown these days. With perseverance and energy we went to the streets to show our refusal, once again, of a series of job and social cutbacks --- Cutbacks that are due to the crisis caused by exacerbated consumer policy and unlimited debt that directly caused the collapse. Given this situation the different governments, regardless of political orientation, have chosen to rescue the financial institutions and drown the workers. The last attack is contained in the Special Law for Sustainability of Public Finance, imposed by the Popular Party in our region and in direct relation to the regional civil service. .--- It is also important to note that the crisis is affecting the whole population and that these cuts are not the only ones. There above and beyond the table of pension reform and labor reform, which negatively affect millions of workers, and of course, workers in Murcia. Unemployment continues to rise, hovering in our region around 24% of the population. They have also eliminated social aid destined for the most disadvantaged people.

The rise in unemployment makes it impossible for people to meet their basic needs by the sweat of their brow, that is to say by working and the governments don’t understand the disastrous results of their policy, those of withdrawing social benefits. Thus we find that thousands of people in our region are being evicted from their homes and / or have to go to soup kitchens. These consequences are also due to other cuts, which in turn correspond to the same policy, ie trying to make those who did not cause the crisis pay for it.

According to the events that have occurred, nobody doubts that the financial institutions are primarily responsible for the crisis, but it is they who sit down and negotiate with the governments, regional or central authority, deciding what percentage of pay and what rights they will take away so that we assume the cost of a crisis for which we should not pay, nor with which we should allow ourselves to be charged.

The aim of the demonstrations should not only be the withdrawal of the law imposed by the PP in our region, the demands should reject the full range of cuts, imposed by the PSOE. This aspect is essential, because you cannot negotiate after the imposition of such magnitude, regardless of the party policy that imposed it.

The cuts affect us all, whether we are civil servants or not. Therefore, the CGT* encourages unemployed people, pensioners, those affected by foreclosures, state and regional officials, students, all the workers and the general public to participate in the various demonstrations taking place and to demand the end of all the cutbacks, of all the cutbacks.

CGT Murcia.
