(en) Brazil - Sao Paulo - Motion of Support for the occupation of the headquarters of Funai in Brasilia by the Indigenous Peoples [machin translation]

Date Sun, 24 Jan 2010 12:17:39 +0200

The Anarchist Federation of Sao Paulo (FASP), in Indigenous and Peasant Front, hereby support the Indians who occupied the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) and the struggle of all people in resistance against the advance of landowners and agribusiness. Because we are a political organization that stands for freedom, social justice and community in search of an egalitarian society, we reject the charge by the Federal Police and the government to contain the outbreak. ---- We demand the immediate repeal of Decree 7056! Signed without prior consultation with indigenous peoples in the country, the decree makes it cease to exist nine of the 45 administrative units of FUNAI - places where there was room for a dialogue with the indigenous people and the State by which it was possible for policy discussions public.

By having been approved without the involvement of indigenous people, the decree violates what is meant by their "right decision", given by the Federal Constitution and ILO Convention 169, promulgated in 2004.

It is necessary to defend our right to participate in decisions in all social spaces within but also outside of the legal, ie, beyond what legal claims the state. In this case, we believe it is essential not only guided us through the legal system, but by what the indigenous peoples claim for identity and recognition of merit. Thus, we must show, through our resistance and our actions organized, that the right of political participation has been and is a natural right of the people.

There are already more than 500 years of oppression and exploitation against the indigenous peoples before legitimized by the colonial system, and today by the capitalist logic. We need all of us who are being oppressed and exploited, we'll get together to fight our enemies in common!

Demarcations of indigenous lands!
