Czech squatters demonstrate outside Dutch embassy in Prague - A demonstration of
solidarity with Dutch squatters who feel harmed by the latest Dutch legislation, organised
by the Czechoslovak Anarchist Federation (CSAF) and Czech squatters, was held outside the
Dutch embassy in Prague this afternoon. ---- The 30-minute demonstration was attended by
some 20-30 people. ---- The police forced Czech squatters from a villa they had illegally
occupied in Prague in June. ---- The squatters with sun-glasses and hoods listened to loud
music and danced, waving the banner "One step back" outside the embassy. ---- The police
sealed off the area. There were no conflicts.

The demonstration was prompted by Dutch squatters' protests against the
criminalisation of squatting, allegedly passed by the Dutch parliament on
October 15.

As squatting is still legal in the Netherlands, the legislation has
provoked protests by squatters.

"The new law may cause the destruction of many cultural and social centres
as well as criminalisation of thousands of people living in the squats,"
the CSAF's web page says.

In June, Czech squatters were evicted from the Milada villa in Prague in
which they had lived for about ten years. Human Rights Minister Michael
Kocab then found a new accommodation for them elsewhere in Prague.
