(en) Mayday in Turkey- a short report

Date Sat, 02 May 2009 16:35:24 +0300

Some reports and info spreaded out from Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya about anarchists'
presence in Mayday demos and protests. -- In Istanbul, the governor didnot let most of the
protestors (except trade-unions) to enter Taxim square in downtown. So, lots of protestors
clashed with cops in nearby streets. A group of anarchist protestors give some damage to
the property in Cihangir as the mainstream media reported with lots of stupid criticism:
3 anarchists in there reported to be injured (one of them heavily injured) not only
related with the cops' attack also some local fascists from the neighborhood attacked
them- they personnaly had nothing their own as an offensive weapon. 6-7 anarchists seems
to be arrested and they will either have a trial or the public prosecutor will decide to
free them. Overall 108 people reported to be arrested during Mayday protests in Istanbul.

In Istanbul- Fikirtepe neigborhood's local bazaar, a group of 20
anarchists cooked and served their own cookies writing either circled
A or Mayday on them. They also distributed 2 different leaflets and
made some speeches to the crowd.

In Ankara, a number of anarchist groups were present in Mayday demo:
AAI-Ankara Anarchy Initiative, AKA- Anarchy Collective Ankara and
anarcho-communist Tacanka. Each had their own flags and banner
marching seperately. AAI seemed to be most crowded. AKA was about 25
people. Tacanka had their own designed flags. Many leaflets were
distributed and slogans were shouted as usual. At a point, a clash
broke out in the police control point while Halkevleri group was
trying to enter the demo square. After some tear gas and a few
gun-shots, they let the remaining groups inside unusually without any
police control.

Also; in Antalya a group of 10-12 anarchists marched in Mayday demo.

Yet no more info came from other places...
