(en) Britain, London, G20, Militant Workers Bloc - Report and Feedback

Date Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:49:43 +0300

Estimates of between 700 - 1,000 people marched in solidarity with the Militant Workers
Bloc, on the Put People First demonstration, which consisted of a large presence of
anarchists from London and across the UK. The bloc was called by London Anarchists and
endorsed by the IWW, Anarchist Federation, No Borders London, Antifa England, Liberty &
Solidarity and from local anarchists groups in london including Whitechapel Anarchist
Group, Camden Anarchists, Walthamstow and Croydon Anarchists. Many more groups also
supported the bloc with banners from Solidarity Federation and Goldsmiths Uni Anarchist
group - Autonomy & Solidarity. ---- The Bloc finished with an Anarchist rally at speakers
corner ---- In the last year the organisational capibilities and long term strategy of
anarchists in London has developed, and though still extremely limited there are many new
fronts which are pushing ahead - from the opening up of the new Freedom Bookshop, to the
formation of local anarchist and libertarian groups, a monthly social in the form of the
Red & Black Club, to the consistency of working collaboratively between all anarchists in
London. March 28th and the militant workers bloc didn't come out from nowhere - it was a
reflection of a year of soul-searching and re-thinking of what the hell we are doing.

This process continues now and whatever happens on April 1st/2nd in London is largely
irrevelant. As we move closer to the what is intended to be the first of an annual series
of Movement conferences (June 6/7 at Queen Mary University - www.conference09.org.uk) -
there is a real opportunity to break out much wider than we have ever done before to a
larger audience of people.

This has ONLY be achievable due to a common aspiration by many different anachists to move
forward with our politics and ultimately to become a viable and visible movement that we
can be proud of associating ourselves with. There are still huge problems that need to be
worked out but hopefully we have inspired enough people with whats possible and have set a
benchmark with future initatives.
